Purchase options and add-ons
What if a sixteen-year-old assistant traveled aboard the storied Nautilus, the narwhal-shaped submarine of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? And what if he were the sole survivor of the ill-fated voyage and went on to relay his adventures to a certain . . . Jules Verne? Find this brave young man’s own account in the lavishly illustrated Oceanology, a tale of an 1866 voyage of discovery that investigates diving bells and shipwrecks; coral reefs and ice canyons; sharks, giant octopi, and luminous sea monsters; underwater volcanoes, and even the legendary island of Atlantis.

For this specific book, the script is in cursive so if your child isn’t familiar with cursive, it could be difficult to understand. The book is about ocean exploration, a companion to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but they needn’t read the book to like this one. It offers interesting facts about ocean creatures, currents, the innovations of the 19th century for ocean exploration, and more!
Overall, I’m very pleased with this book. My little brother loves it and it’s sparked an interest in reading for him.
He did like this one. I think maybe he's gotten a little old for these books- he's a pretty advanced reader for his age. But it is a beautiful book and he really did like it, especially since it was about so many of his favorite things all together. He didn't like it as much as I thought, but it was a good bood and I would buy it as a gift for someone else certainly.
