He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and diplomas with Mention très Honorable at the Université de Paris (en Sorbonne), Faculté des Lettres École Supérieure de Préparation et de Perfectionnement des Professeurs de Français à l'Étranger, and at the Institut de Phonétique, Paris. He is former Chairman of the Department of Foreign Languages and Supervisor of 16 foreign language teachers at Farmingdale High School, Farmingdale, NY, and has taught foreign language courses at various colleges and universities.

One of the most difficult things to do when speaking a foreign language is to switch tenses or tell a story in another tense. This book is a life saver when it comes to learning verbs and gaining fluency.

Taking an intro to French in college can be one of the most daunting things. Especially when you are not a teenager and you can no longer absorb material like a sponge, the way you did when you were a little kid. But, its even more daunting when learning Spanish in junior high school just didn't go so well whatsoever. I was looking for something substantial to help me with my studies. I was in no mood to pay for the outrageous price of Rosetta Stone, so I opted for the Fluenz French program. But having extra material to help me on my way to becoming fully immersed in everything French, I definitely needed something more. I just happened to be browsing online when i stumbled upon this French verb book many times over. I held off on buying it, but was intrigued by the CD Rom software. However, it was the goldbox deal of the day and i thought for the price, it was reasonable. I received the product today and its so worth it. Just a wonderful investment & a great study guide. The purchase alone is worth the CD that's included. The software lets you take quizzes and tests in different formats to help you enhance your knowledge of the language. Example: Sentence Completion Exercises to fill in the blanks, dialogue exercises to fill in the appropriate response, word completion etc. Best part is, it even supplies a button that provides the explanation to the answers. The book is a decent size, but I didn't expect it to have so many pages. It's almost as thick as a Twilight novel! Pick this winner up because it's a wonderful guide to the only romance language in my humble opinion.

I didn't realize how much I really needed this book until I bought it. It's unbelievably helpful - it has, as you probably realized from the title :), 501 verbs listed alphabetically with their meanings and complete conjugations in EVERY TENSE. Verbs are especially hard for me, so this book is a real life-saver. I probably would have bought it for that reason alone, but it also has explanations of every tense (some aren't so clear, but they're good at at least refreshing my memory a little on when to use each of them), a glossary in the back of English verbs translated into French, and an additional glossary with over 2,500 additional French verbs. These aren't conjugated, but the authors have listed a verb that they're conjugated like, so it's not that difficult to conjugate them from the glossary alone. The CD wasn't really my thing, but it might help someone else with conjugations and tenses.

Bottom line: this book is extremely, extremely handy. If you aren't sure whether to get it, I would! It saves me probably half an hour of French homework every night.

*Just an additional note: I didn't give the product 5 stars because of the seller. My book was in perfect condition with the CD, but it just took a really long time to actually get here. Probably the longest out of anything I've ever bought on Amazon.

This book has helped me immensely in verbs. I'm working through duolingo French and it is very difficult without this book which really explains why things work like they do with why you use certain verb tenses (if you have a que in the sentence or other key words its an indicator to use certain tenses). Makes it simpler to understand how to go about conjugating the tenses and explains english equivalents. Just a very in depth understandable book. These guys that wrote the book obviously have a lot of experience in teaching and writing French learning materials because they give a lot of information about French usage that I haven't seen any where else and I have a lot of French learning materials on hand.

This is a great resource for French verbs and their tenses. Conjugation is the most challenging part of French for me. It really helps to see the verbs and their endings in all of the diverse conjugations. This book is thick. Like the type, and layout. Very easy to use. Even though there are 501 verbs in here, it's amazing how many I come across which didn't make the cut. This is an invaluable resource for the serious French student. My french instructor recommended this book.

Just like every other 501 book, this one takes the 501 most common verbs you'll be using and a lot of important irregulars and puts them in a convenient, easy-to-flip-through guide where you can quickly find what you're looking for! The formatting is clear and makes it easy to figure out what you want. For French, I've been using this book in addition to the Rosetta Stone software and it has helped immensely. Definitely recommended.

I definitely made the right choice, and my tutor has said she is now contemplating purchasing this one as well!! It is really easy to find the very you are looking for, it is nicely laid out in the different tenses and has helpful phrases included outlining the potential uses.... I do not hesitate to recommend this book. I have used it a lot!

I have a very old version of this book which has been invaluable to me. I decided to update it and am really pleased with this new version. All the verbs are listed alphabetically. There are also many verb drills and tests which are very useful together with example sentences. In fact, this verb book has everything a student will need for studying French. There is also a CD Rom with exercises which is a big bonus. I bought my original verb book when I first started studying French with the Open University and found it so useful that I would not have wanted to be without it. It is now very worn so was in need of replacement and I love this new version. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent update from my badly worn 1982 edition. Many new features in both style and content. I love the new presentation which now names each verb as regular or irregular at the page head. The 55 essential verb list ,and the identification of such verbs at the page head ,is a very useful feature.

I wish the "original" version had been like this edition; it would have made the book easier to use. Learning the verbs, however, is still hard work, and there is no way around that.
