Product Description

Rush Hour (DVD)

Amazon.com

The plot line may sound familiar: Two mismatched cops are assigned as reluctant partners to solve a crime. Culturally they are complete opposites, and they quickly realize they can't stand each other. One (Jackie Chan) believes in doing things by the book. He is a man with integrity and nerves of steel. The other (Chris Tucker) is an amiable rebel who can't stand authority figures. He's a man who has to do everything on his own, much to the displeasure of his superior officer, who in turn thinks this cop is a loose cannon but tolerates him because he gets the job done. Directed by Brett Ratner, Rush Hour doesn't break any new ground in terms of story, stunts, or direction. It rehashes just about every "buddy" movie ever made--in fact, it makes films such as Tango and Cash seem utterly original and clever by comparison. So, why did this uninspired movie make over $120 million at the box office? Was the whole world suffering from temporary insanity? Hardly. The explanation for the success of Rush Hour is quite simple: chemistry. The casting of veteran action maestro Jackie Chan with the charming and often hilarious Chris Tucker was a serendipitous stroke of genius. Fans of Jackie Chan may be slightly disappointed by the lack of action set pieces that emphasize his kung-fu craft. On the other hand, those who know the history of this seasoned Hong Kong actor will be able to appreciate that Rush Hour was the mainstream breakthrough that Chan had deserved for years. Coupled with the charismatic scene-stealer Tucker, Chan gets to flex his comic muscles to great effect. From their first scenes together to the trademark Chan outtakes during the end credits, their ability to play off of one another is a joy to behold, and this mischievous interaction is what saves the film from slipping into the depths of pitiful mediocrity. --Jeremy Storey

Like many others here, I revisited Rush Hour after not seeing it for many years...now with our adult kids. We howled! Although the movies utilizes a bit of street humor that is racially-based, it's no less hilarious overall. Tucker is a hoot, and Chan is a very much a gentleman with underrated talent, in my opinion. I have a bias to "like" this movie because I was at the climax of my career behind the camera when this was made and released. I know and have been friends with many in the camera department of this movie. Although I didn't work on this movie, I did work on Rush Hour 2 while they were shooting in Las Vegas. Watching last night, it was also fun to see Jackie's stunt guys and a number of other supporting actors that I remember from various shows in the 90s. It is likely that you haven't seen it on the big screen since 1998. The Blu-ray PQ is quite good on the home big screen, and the the 7.1 mix is quite impressive!

A majority of us have probably seen Rush Hour at least once, but the movie is still as enjoyable as ever. My kids (13,12,10) all love Jackie Chan and the comedic antics of Chris Tucker, so watching the two banter back and forth throughout the movie make for an enjoyable movie….no matter how many times you watch it. Yes, we all know the ending, and sometimes the movie seems silly (like the part where the bad guy is being chased into the roof rafters of the museum by Jackie Chan), but we always seem to see something we didn't catch previously that makes the movie fun.

Had to purchase this and re-watch it after watching the Rush Hour TV Pilot Episode to get the horrible acting of my mind. The movie is great and has gotten better after watching the TV Series. The actors and the acting are what make the move great, and the editing and the better choreographed fight sense are the icing on top of the cake. (Makes it a pleasure to watch, instead of a gut busting, nauseating, 50 cut fight scene because the actors can't fight. Ref: [...]

My 12 year son thought this was one of the funniest movies he has ever seen. Jackie Chan is no theatrical artist in the acting category, but you can't beat the action and martial arts scenes. The other guy (his name escapes me) provides the comic rellief. It's hard for our whole family to find something everyone can tolerate for movie nights, but this one was a success.

I love this movie. It's got action, it's funny, and Kung fu- I mean, what more can you want?? I finally got my kiddos (2 boys, 11 and 7yrs) to watch it and they loved it as well. I think it's a great introduction into the Kung fu genre as it's light-hearted and you get a look into the Asian culture a bit. It's a little older but not one to forget!

I have seen the movie so many times that I can't remember how often! Great movie, still to this day. If you like a good comedy with a mix of action and emotion, this is the movie for you. All three of the movies, in the series, are amazing!
