I agree with the other reviewer who commented on the small type -- it might be a little hard to see -- but I find it still readable. However, I was looking for a basic dictionary to help with studying Scottish Gaelic that covers the translation both ways and in a small size (pocket size) -- so this is working very well for me. The book provides basic words I need in starting to learn Scottish Gaelic and is a good back up for the CDs with text that I've also purchased. It is about 160 pages total -- so it is not excessively comprehensive as a larger dictionary might be -- but for someone just beginning with the language it will be fine for quite a while.

I'm trying to teach myself Gaelic, but the program only has words in its dictionary that the program uses. This Scottish Gaelic /English dictionary has so much more. Plus it gives the command form of the verb. Since I am writing a book with a Scottish heroine, I wanted some simple Gaelic phrases to make it a little more authentic, and this dictionary was great. And Google Translate on-line only gives Irish, not Scottish.

The service was great however the dictionary did not provide pronunciations which rendered the book worthless. It should have noted that fact. Also the dictionary said it was simple enough for a child to use. Absolutely not true.

Not meant in any way as a comprehensive dictionary, this is a quick pocket reference. For its design, it is very good. Scots Gaelic to English/ English to Scots Gaelic that is easy to use and very handy. Nice for beginners.

Nice book. I lost one almost like it that I had bought in Scotland for 5lbs. Just a bit expensive for this one. I thought it was bigger, but my fault.

A bit disappointing as it doesn't have a pronunciation guide, but it's neat to see and figure out what everything is in Scots-Gaelic.

A Little Dictionary
Reviewed in Canada on May 28, 2013Verified Purchase
A little but not short dictionary, yes surprisingly quite complete and well made concerning lot of variants for a same word. I played a lot with it trying to translate titles from Capt. Fraser's Scottish Music Collection and it's working very well. It is just demanding to be aware of spelling changes of a word troughout centuries, as in any language anyway. Also, be sure to wear good looking glasses reading it: I did say "Little" but not short so is it printed consequently, and consequently handy for pocket.
