Great

Worthless attempt to fix a broken movie ...

Nothing annoys moviegoers (and television watchers alike) more than when a sequel attempts to rewrite the history of the previous movie. When Highlander 2 hit theaters, moviegoers were horrified at the changes made to what was considered a straightforward premise ... that among us are people who, becasue of some quirk of fate, were born immortal. The theatrical release of the movie attempted to explain immortality as a punishment, exiled aliens sent to earth and doomed to live forever (until someone lopped your head off that was).

The Renegade Version release of this movie on DVD makes an admirable attempt at trying to fix this, but unfortunately has to rely on an old fomula of "once upon a time, in the distant, forgotten past, humans were more evolved than we are now" to make it work. The Renegade Version is hobbled from being a proper entry into the Highlander franchise by the story that was filmed, and no amount of rearranging scenes or restoring deleted scenes can make sufficient changes to the movie to fix it.

In the end, you buy this movie because of the "2" in the title (because most collectors abhor gaps in their collections), and do what the producers did when they made the following move .... pretend Highlander 2 never existed.

When I first seen this movie on VHS nearly 9 years ago, I thought it was good, but too short (with it only 90 minutes back then). The Renegade Version on DVD not only shows the same scenes from the theatrical version, but this special edition adds 19 minutes of extra footage that was never shown. I thought the storyline was kinda confusing, but it's still pretty entertaining. Christopher Lambert is good in this film, but James Bond himself, Sean Connery nearly stole the whole show on the brief scenes he had.

Feeble

I actually saw this film in the theatures when it first came out. This was the absolute worst movie I ever saw in the theature, and I am a big "Highlander fan". I am sure the other reviews will probably persuade anyone from buying it. The only reason I purchased it was for a gag gift. 'Nuff said.

COULD ANYONE IMAGINE A WORSE MESS?

At least H2 was consistent: The worst scripting, worst directing, worst acting, worst casting, worst editing and worst everything else I've ever seen in a movie. It's the George Bush of movies.

What's worse is that they took one of the best premises around, the HIGHLANDER concept, and so messed and muddled it. In my book this mucked-up monster has replaced BATTLEFIELD EARTH as the most incomprehensible waste of money in cinematic history. (Whew. I feel better. Not much though; but the bad mental taste is somewhat exorcised.)
