Watch the Star Wars trilogy enough times and you'll find yourself straining to catch all the little details. Not the subtle plot points (Darth is Luke's dad, check; Luke and Leia are brother and sister, check), but all the cool gear and gadgets that keep flashing in front of the camera. Like what are those pointy things on Boba Fett's kneepads? And what's with all that ammo on Chewie's bandolier? And does an Imperial Probe really need that many legs? Finally, we've got some answers.

David West Reynolds, a boyish Ph.D. in archaeology who looks like he just rode in on the last Bantha, has catalogued the artifacts and inhabitants of the Star Wars universe with the same clinical thoroughness one typically reserves for studying Mesopotamia. His oversized, eye-pleasing picture book is packed with scrutinizing photos of actual props and characters from the movies, complete with systematic, scientific labels. Star Wars Episode I cross-sections

This is the cross-sections of vehicles from episode I. While quite detailed and infomative it is still a book most likely meant for younger people. It is short on the page count at 32 pages but the shear size of the book is impressive at 10 1/2 X 14 inches. The art work is quite impressive and some include the pilot or occupants of the ship which is a nice touch. I recommend it.

Ships included are as follows.

The Republic Cruiser Radiant VII.
The Trade Federation Landing ship.
The Trade Federation MTT (multi troop transport).
The Gungan sub.
The royal starship of Queen Amidala.
The podracers (only Teemto's, Anakin's and Sebulba's podracers are cross sectioned).

I owned this book in my younger years and spent a lot of time flipping through it. When my nephew started taking an interest in Star Wars, I had to get him a copy. He brought it the last few times he visited, and we ended up flipping through it. A bit of a trip down memory lane, and a nice book for Star Wars fans.

Just note that it does only cover the original trilogy.

First I'd like to mention the very fast shipping from US to Eastern Europe. Packing was very good too. As for the book itself, it is really fantastic, a great read. In my opinion this hardcover book is a must for any Star Wars fan, reasonable price, great detailed photos and text.

It's Star Wars...

If I could limit my review to under 5 words I would say: It's Star Wars people, but since I need at least 20 words. Love the images, the summary of information on the characters, and hello... Luke Skywalker. I love the original trilogy, which is why I purchased this one along with the character encyclopedia(which covers both trilogies). I also hear R2-D2 and C3PO are big fans of this book :)

This book is quite informative. Let me add part of a paragraph straight out of the book.

Blaster Weaponry

'Common blaster weapons use high energy gas as ammunition, activated by a power cell and converted into plasma. The plasma is released from a magnetic bottle effect to fire through collimating components as a coherent energy bolt. Inherent instabilities limit the ability to precisely aim a blaster bolt, but knowing one's weapon well can strengthen marksmanship.'

Well I never knew that the blasters were gas powered, and the 'instabilities' that 'limit the ability to precisely aim a blaster bolt' kind of explains why most Stormtroopers can't hit the side of a Deathstar. The pictures are well done and really show the age of all our favorite items from a galaxy far, far away. There are some items that are cross-sectioned giving us a inside look of some of these items. It also has some of the creatures that were added to the universe with George's 1990's updates.

Anyway this is a nice book and I recommend it if you are a fan of the original Star Wars movies.

I bought this book and the complete guide for the entire saga. I was more impressed with this book than the other. This book was missing atleast the one character I was looking for Niem (Sullustan) that flew the Falcon with Lando in 6. So I looked him up on the internet and found his info readily availble on some star wars website. I was hoping that they would atleast list the name and race for ever character shown, but they don't.
