Mr. Gertler earned 5 stars for his cleverness, but only 3 for delivering on the editors' promises. Two of the three bulletpoints on the cover include photo editing guidance, but unfortunately, only a small section of the book specifically addresses the photo editing capabilities of Paint Shop Pro 7. In fact, I only discovered after receiving the book and noticing discrepancies early on between it and my software, that the copyright of my book was 2001, far outdating the program I just purchased. This was certainly my fault for not asking since I was buying a used book, and so I caution others to take better note. Notwithstanding, despite Mr. Gertler's early-on promise that I needn't read every chapter, the truth is that to utlize the program for photo editing requires that one understand and be capable of using most of the components included in design and graphics. Had Mr. Gertler made specific reference back to those important paint/design elements when he touched on the relatively small section on the program's photo editing capabilities, I might have actually come away with a positive learning experience. As it was, I was definitely entertained but just as definitely disappointed.

I used to be quite suspicious of "Complete Idiot's Guide" series (and "For Dummies" as well) and would never buy a book without prior browsing it. But in this case I was fully convinced by the excellent recommendations of the reviewers and the relatively high (i.e. actually low) sales rank. So, when the book arrived, I eagerly started to look it through for selective topics and ... at once got disappointed because of the lack or even absence of the important material. For instance, just several short lines are dedicated to the Sharpen Menu, and the Unsharp Mask parameters are not explained at all. As for Histogram Functions, considered to be one of the most important tools, they are not even mentioned. Incredible! What's up? Am I a wrong reader? Not a "complete idiot"? May be. I don't know. I'm just returning the book and discouraging everybody from buying it.

NOT for Corel PaintShop Pro 7! This book was printed in 2001, 13 years before the Corel version was released, it covers the Jasc Software version. Pretty much worthless for the modern version. Not worth the bother to return.

The author seems to think that idiots arew defined by a love of cornball humor. Said humor actually got offensive after a while. It would be a better book if he had skipped the stupid attempts to be funny and put more detail into the book. Not very useful.

There are two Paint Shop Pro 7 programs. One was put out by JASC years ago and that is what this book is for. The newer program same name is out by Corel.

I was a dummy for buying a book that is 14 years old. Obviously out of print. I paid $44.00 for a book that is pre-printed $19.99 US.on the back cover. I bought Paint Shop Pro X7 Ultimate and "assumed" this book would help...my bad. Whatever.

My bad!!!! I had just bought PaintShop Pro X7, and Amazon (with Google help, no doubt) offered me this guide to PaintShop Pro 7 - NOT X7 - just 7. When I received it and realized my mistake, I did. indeed, feel like a COMPLETE IDIOT! - Another fail for modern advertising.
