My parents lived in poland until 1939 when the war started. To my knowledge not all jews in poland were religious, not all of them had beards or long payot. I have pictures of family and friends who were not poor or rich in poland, and they dont have the religious look we see in the book.
This book shows only the very religious jews in those years. Thats a false image.

Beautiful, meaningful book about Jewish life in Poland before World War II. Very important for people to see these photos. I find them very poignant. How poor people were! How difficult life was back then! But how familiar the faces look! It's a wonderful book! An important book. Especially for young people today.

Gift for Mother. She read it a couple of times and really was engaged by the stories that went along with the pictures.

Wow, just show it to your younger Jewish kids and they'll be shocked to see what they came from. And stick it in the face of all those people who think all Jews were/are rich bankers, for heaven's sakes. A very rich compendium. Bought a second copy for my brother-in-law. My daughter asked if she could have it instead. That should say a lot!

The most beautiful journey back in time!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 4, 2021Verified Purchase
I thought I will look at the album little by little to stretch out this amazing feast for eyes and soul for few weeks. Alas, once you start there’s just no way you can stop. If you have any appreciation for the world that was this album will suck you in and take you for an unbelievable journey. My only wish is that there were more photos because I just didn’t want it to end. But just like the old times everything comes to an end and so does this beautiful beautiful book. One of the top purchases ever! Thank you.
