What Good Is A Research Book if you Can't Read the Information Therein?

When I bought ABSTRACT OF EARLY KENTUCKY WILLS AND INVENTORIES, I admit I had expectations regarding the font size. So my lack of experience is the problem, for I have never seen a book with such small print. The book was originally published in 1933, which accounts for the occasional faint print, but why the small print size? Perhaps there is no font size standard. Abstract of Early Kentucky Wills and Inventories, Copied from Original and Recorded Wills and Inventories by J Estelle Stewart King contains a notice by the Genealogical Publishing Company stating "this work is reproduce by the photo-offset process from the original mimeographed edition...every effort has been made by our photo-offset printer to produce as fine a reprint of the original mimeographed edition as possible". So the fault is mine in the sense of 'buyer beware'. Do sites like Amazon state the print size? The cover and paper quality is nice and there is a lot of data available; nevertheless if one has problems with font size, this book is not satisfactory.

The book is well-organized, but it's only going to be useful if you know, or at least suspect with some certainty, that your relative is mentioned. That isn't meant to diminish the book in any fashion. It just means you better have done your research before you buy the book.

For the counties it covers it is very good. However, there are several counties not listed (you can't know that until you buy the book). Johnson County, Floyd County, and Whitley County just to name three are not represented in the material.
