Librarians may be hard-pressed as to whether to place this book in the humor section or on the genealogy shelves. It's a funny book that deserves serious attention. Galeener-Moore's first book, Collecting Dead Relatives (Genealogical Pub., 1987), was by no means a complete telling of how an otherwise normal person becomes a genealogist. This book continues with adventures in digging up dead relatives in graveyards (figuratively speaking, of course), discerning causes of death, and trying to identify the unidentifiable in crumbling old photos. It also is a how-to book, as in how to become a published author. Since there's a wealth of valuable information to be found amid the laughs, public libraries--and librarians, public or not--should have this book on hand.

Although I enjoyed her first book even more, this one was fun too. It describes earlier family history research days when one would have to write or travel to different counties all over the Country to obtain records. Now, researching online from your own home or your local library is certainly simpler, easier, and less expensive. But her descriptions of various difficult employees guarding county historical tombs are a hoot. She gives ample warning to those who would research the National Archives in Washington, D.C. or the Mormon genealogical library in Salt Lake. Be prepared to do battle for a microfilm machine and a few elderly women with canes. I'm glad that researching family history is easier now.

Stopping with the first book would have been best. This book seems more outdated than the first, and the humor seems to have lost the spark. Perhaps a good selection for a big library that is desperately wanting some Genealogy Humor, but not for a genealogist who could spend the money on some research instead.
