If you do genealogy and need a book of the early Indian Trading system; who was involved and how it actually operated; this is the book for you. It's even comical in some areas which I found refreshing. It's very honest about the people involved in the trade and even how humorous they can be upon occasion. It also recounts the sadness and disappointments that come from trading with others unlike oneself. You glean a sense of how important it is to be trusted and wholly understood; on both sides. It's even a good read for the history buff who likes the real early American history and avoids the sleepy politics of Congressional members and presidents and military action with the English. This is Americana at it's best.

Extremely interesting and authentic account of our settlers. I was tracing my Paxton lineage only to find I have Gen. Sam Houston as a distant relative. There is considerable information on the civil war POWs, who they were, where they were imprisoned, and what wounds they sustained. A lot of information on day-to-day living during that era. If you love history, you'll enjoy "A History of Rockbridge County, Virginia" Although the book did not receive a good scan process, it is still quite legible.

It is a good history but there is a later one published a few years ago called Remarkable Rockbridge. The Kendal version did not transcribe well...lots of individual words were wrong. The experience was fine

This is a must-have book, but it is available for free in the Internet archive, and the Kindle edition is simply the same poorly scanned and character-recognized version you can get for free. If you just need a few pages, use the free scanned (PDF) edition, otherwise buy the real book.

I liked getting the information in hand however the copy process was very disappointing.

Great info where it can be read, unfortunately transferring it to ebook has garbled a lot of words.
