I started with CDL with book 9 or so of Newford and now I am going back to read the earlier novels and this one is one of the best and I have loved them all. I thought he wouldn't be as good way back when but this novel is excellent and had me on tenterhooks the whole way through. Made my heart throb with the love of life as he always does. I highly recommend it for newbies and for old dogs like myself you will be delighted that CDL was great right from the start.

I just re-read Trader as an ebook for the first time. I’ve been re-reading it every year or two since... 2002 when my future wife moved in with her books and said “read this”.
For me it is still a wonderful story. Not only well edited (I read too many books to discount a good editor). The story is engaging, well paced and written, but more importantly for me, the primary characters make the story glow with energy and joy. They interact, grow, learn, and change. Well... Devlin doesn’t change, but that’s kinda the point of his character, eh?
I do think it’s worth reading the other linked books, but Trader absolutely stands on its own as a delightful read.
