Ender's shadow is an Locus award winning book from the award winning author Orson Scott Card, shows a different point of view from the best selling Ender's game Movie and book.
This book is classified as science-fiction and it holds true to it word without being one of those generic sci-fi books. The story takes place mostly in space on board a space station, and the problem and enemy are aliens from another planet. This may sound like sci-fi book but believe the book is not about the war it is about the story and the passion that it took to stand a chance in it as you see through the eyes of bean, a small boy with a big secret and get to know the other interesting, and complex children at the Space station. This book belongs to a series and believe me once you finish this book you will run to get the others. This book is another point of view and ideas then Ender's Shadow so I would suggest you read that book to get the full comparisons of these two very important and complicated characters. The book is not very easy to read but instead very enjoyable, the concepts and thoughts in this book are beyond most people's mind and figuring the problems and solutions bean faces is the most interesting and truly amazing things I find doing when reading these books. The solution the characters come up with are so brilliant that they inspire me to think they way these characters do. If you have read any of Orson Scott Card book you will not be disappointed with this one, it meets his high standards and beyond.
The very well known Ender's game book is very different compare to this one even though the characters are facing the same main problem which is why it is so amazing.

When I picked this book up, I really wanted to like it. Having thoroughly enjoyed Ender's Game, I was very excited to experience this story from another perspective.

Unfortunately, I found this story a little disturbing as it manages to undermine Ender and his accomplishments almost entirely. The point continuously made through Ender's Game was that he would have to rely fully on his own ability and would get no help from any source. This book clearly shatters that notion and goes on to show that Bean is the force behind much of Ender's success, and that Ender would not have attained all he had without Bean's exceptional intellect. One case in point: Bean was responsible for hand picking Ender's Dragon Army while it took time for Ender to realize their full worth as soldiers.

The notion of Bean's enhanced intellectual ability reads like a cheap literary trick to justify the level of knowledge and insight the character would continuously have throughout the book. Bean is portrayed as being deficient in only one area- the ability to create almost fanatical loyalty from his subordinates. This deficiency is explained in his relationship with Achilles and inability to take a leadership role within the "family." This; however, is a very poor comparison to Battle School, where the interactions between students, while sometimes contentious, are incorrectly framed within Bean's past experiences of life and death situations- which he obviously knows.

In fact, in Bean's first interaction with Ender, he shows an uncanny ability to analyze and understand Ender's leadership deficiencies and their consequences, even while Ender struggled with them.

Ever since Enders Game, a book that lead into a series that would change my life and way of thinking, I have been in love with this story. I have read them all in their order, some repeatedly more so than others. It is beyond my mind to imagine that this book could have been more perfect for the series it stands beside and a part of. Often, alternate views of the same story are too redundant, and lack their own story, or the opposite, they do not bridge and connect with the first view. I believe that Orson Scott Card rode the balance between the two ultimates, and Enders Shadow was born into a league that it may occupy alone.

A beautiful story, and as always, possessing an incredible insight into the human mind as an individual and as a species. Reading this book can only better the reader, and I recommend it to anyone capable of grasping it's story.

I love Julian "Bean" Delphiki as much as I love Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, and both characters hold a place in my heart that few characters from the vast pool of books and stories I have experienced share. Thank you Mr. Card, for this beauty you allowed me to experience and live.

This has been one of my most favorite books since I first read it in the 7th grade. The story of kids not just fighting against the threat to humanity, but commanding the entire military makes every young kid feel like they have a chance to do something important. The story line is great, moves along at a good pace, and keeps readers engaged. After 2 or 3 paperback copies got read to pieces, I finally purchased it for Kindle when the last copy bit the dust.
15 years later this is still one of my most favorite books. As I have progressed as a reader, I find more and more depth in Card's writing and the book appeals on levels deeper than it did when I was in 7th grade. While still entertaining as it was then, the depth into the characters deepens and the similarities between the story-line and real life resonate with the reader and bring the story to life.
I plan to still be reading this book in another 15 years from now.
