I had no idea when I began to read this book how it would enter my daily life. I thought I was reading about goddesses of a long time ago, but instead it was as if the author put a mirror in front of me and pointed out each one- Hestia, Aphrodite, Artemis- all inside of me and around me.
This is a book that men and women will find a joy to read, with the reward of discovering aspects of not just one's own self, but of one's home, one's work, one's family/friends, and one's life replete with the gentle touch of each of these goddesses.
I will never again light a fire or cook a meal without connecting with Hestia. This book not only educates and enlightens, but manages to connect one with the wonderful energies of each goddess.
It was not just an excellent raed, it was a life transforming adventure. Ms. Paris is one amazing writer and person to have seen and felt so much, but even more to have been able to put words in print for us all to make that journey, each in our own way.

This book literally helped to change my life! The chapter on Aphrodite alone is worth the purchase of this book. I will admit that I have read and reread parts of this book but never read it in its entirety due to the fact that I am a doctoral student with a mountain of reading. The book is very dense and full of insight. I found myself taking a lot of notes when I read it the first couple of times. Dr. Paris' ideas are profound and she writes in a way that really makes complex ideas make sense. I was blown away at the theme of beauty and how lack of beauty leads to depression. I now look for beauty everywhere I go and it makes me happy when I see a city decide to paint a mural or put on a musical performance because now I recognize them as an expression of Aphrodite. I guess I grew up thinking that these things were nice and all but not important and even a wasteful use of resources but after reading this book, I see that beauty is necessary for the soul. Since first reading this book, I have embraced color, learned to paint and play the guitar, and improved my own appearance. Ginette opened up the world of beauty to me and I can never thank her enough for such a gift. I have bought multiple copies of this book as I have shared it with others that ended up wanting to have a copy of this wonderfully insightful text.

Ginette Paris brings a contempory feminist approach to three very different Greek goddesses. The section devoted to the oft overlooked Hestia is particularly interesting. Ms. Paris brings a social and ecological sensibility to this thoughtful, well-argued text.

I have just reorder a copy - having read it in 1988. It is as good as it gets if you are interested in these great Goddesses. Paris is a master at communicating fascinating and quite original material about these powerful forces of feminine power. Paris has the wisdom and scholarship to inspire.
