The book lists the various spellings of names under one consolidated name. For example, one of my family names appears as Cedillo, Sedillo, and Sedillos. This book consolidates them all under Sedillos.
Also, I found some errors. In just my family, I found two errors. The information on these two items (in the book) differ from the document images I have. Not a big deal, but it makes me wonder if it's a research or a publishing error.
Still, it's a great resource for information and a good source to point you in the right direction to find the document images.
Pros:
- good historical info
- inclusive of varied name spellings
Cons:
- no name index
This was quite an undertaking for Father Chavez and I am impressed. The book is quite thick and was shrink wrapped so that the book was not damaged in transit. There are 2 addenda's in the back and the most recent addenda does not have the last names bolded as the rest of the book does. The bolded surnames in the rest of the book is most helpful and is easily readable as it is a large font which helps when you are glancing at surnames page by page.

The review above was written some time ago. This is BY FAR the most valuable book I have purchased on my ancestors. I have also English/Scottish ancestors and have bought many books about those ancestors, but when I compare the info in the books, this IS THE BEST!!
A year later...
I have gone on to other genealogical research and many more books looking for my English and Scottish ancestors. This book is one of the best books I have for my genealogy!! I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed!! This is a valuable resource.
The only other requirement that would have been nice was to have an Index of all the surnames, but I realize that would be a HUGE undertaking.
I am very happy with my purchase.
This is a great resource for those people who may have ancestors who were part of the Spanish settlements in NMx.
