I enjoyed the letters that were in the book that was written by some of the defenders of the Alamo. I would of liked to have
seen more information on the individuals that defended the Alamo, but know that is difficult to acquire.

I was very pleased to receive my copy of Alamo Defenders, as my great, great, great grand uncle was among them and the book contains two letters he wrote before falling at the Alamo. It now holds a treasured spot in my library.

I chose the book for its complete [as far as can be known] listing of those whe died at the Alamo. Their letters home were quite revealing.

The book explains how the battle was and where and who the Defenders were and how they came to be in the Alamo.

An outstanding compilation of bios of Alamo defenders in 1836. Each one of the heroes mentioned has an interesting story behind their reason for being a part of the founding of the Republic of Texas. I appreciate the responsiveness of the Amazon seller, and I've never been disappointed by an Amazon purchase.

This book is useless regarding accurate genealogy. It is practically fiction. Case in point: Parker, Robertsons, et c.
Same information as ALAMO HEROES AND THEIR REVOLUTIONARY ANCESTORS

Don't expect too much of this book. Inevitably much of the information about the Alamo defenders is sketchy, if it exists at all. The author has done a very good job in collating such facts as are available and the illustrations and quotes relating to the various participants are good. I particularly liked the picture of David Crockett, drawn from life.
I have a difficulty about the genealogy aspect as the book claims. I feel that most of the backgrounds of the defenders can be readily sourced from elsewhere or on the internet and I found little that was new to me. I had purchased the book hoping to find out more about those participants in the battle that came from the British Isles; however, it only covers their lives after arrival in the USA. I didn't find any evidence of research further back than that. For example, Captain William Blazeby, commanding a contingent of the New Orleans Greys in the battle, came from East Anglia and I was hoping to find out more about his origins. Similarly, I was seeking to ascertain whether any defenders came from Devon (where I now live) but all are shown as coming from 'England', 'Scotland', 'Ireland' etc.
So, overall, for me a bit of a disappointment. However, if you have not previously read about the individuals making up the Alamo garrison, this book could be for you.
