This is a major new reference source for New York City! Mr. Fisher, working from the 1894 transcript made by the Rev. Samuel Seaman for The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, has compiled the entire list of over 41,000 marriages performed in the Methodist churches in New York City during the first century of the Methodist Church, from the close of the American Revolution until the beginning of the 20th century. Virtually every Methodist marriage performed in New York City during the period is included here and in most cases the original records are no longer readily available.

Each of the 41 sources is identified and discussed in these volumes, and for each marriage you are given the full names of the bride and groom, the date of marriage, and the exact location (volume and page number) of the original transcript entry. The first volume contains the index of brides (ladies first, please) arranged alphabetically; the second volume contains the grooms on the same basis. As an added bonus, knowing the location and date of marriage will often lead you to the location and birth dates of the children of these couples, currently hidden within the NYG&B files. These volumes will quickly take their place as a must-have reference for research in New York City for this difficult place and period.
