    LOVE this book. it's a perfect gift for an engineer, designer, or artist. And also great for anyone who actually cares about improving the world. I have a copy and bought one for my brother in law. the projects are ingenious and interesting, although not always totally practical, at least it is a showcase of people TRYING to design things to make the world a better place instead of just making something look pretty (not that there's anything wrong with that... but it's nice to read about things that are being done with humanity's best interests at heart.)

    Without reading the book I must admit that the cover image has put me off what otherwise would have been an interesting topic.

    Can't the designer of this straw see that:

    1. it does not avoid walking distances.
    2. it does not avoid contact with potentially dangerous waters (Crocs, hypos but also ameba, worms...)
    3. water needs to be stored. Is she supposed to suck all the water into her 20l container??
    4. it does nothing to promote the local economy
    5. takes investment from proper water source development into a disposable item
    ...
    ...

    What is going to be the "next revolution", bottled water?

    この本は、そういうまだデザインされていない領域について沢山書かれています。
    飲み水を得るためのデザインとか、なんて原始的で素敵なプロジェクトなんだろう。
