- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2012LOVE this book. it's a perfect gift for an engineer, designer, or artist. And also great for anyone who actually cares about improving the world. I have a copy and bought one for my brother in law. the projects are ingenious and interesting, although not always totally practical, at least it is a showcase of people TRYING to design things to make the world a better place instead of just making something look pretty (not that there's anything wrong with that... but it's nice to read about things that are being done with humanity's best interests at heart.)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2013It has more the shape of a magazine than a book but the content is pretty good starting for those (like me) looking for simple information about social design. Very nice examples, pictures and explanations about each project and its impact.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2012Inspiring and essential, a guide showing what designers (and not only) can do to help the other 90% by using their skills and available technology to solve some serious problems of everyday life.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2014Wonderful and hopefully inspiring to all who read it.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2009Cynthia Smith put together an excellent exhibition by the same name at the Cooper-Hewitt. This book is an excellent companion and great text book for design students and especially for those in other fields to learn how design is an integral part of development. Inspiration and pragmatism make change.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2010Without reading the book I must admit that the cover image has put me off what otherwise would have been an interesting topic.
Can't the designer of this straw see that:
1. it does not avoid walking distances.
2. it does not avoid contact with potentially dangerous waters (Crocs, hypos but also ameba, worms...)
3. water needs to be stored. Is she supposed to suck all the water into her 20l container??
4. it does nothing to promote the local economy
5. takes investment from proper water source development into a disposable item
...
...
What is going to be the "next revolution", bottled water?
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2018Still condescending. We the great white man with solution for small brown people. But also some damn cool ideas worth sharing

ミルミルReviewed in Japan on October 13, 20095.0 out of 5 stars

AReviewed in Japan on June 12, 20105.0 out of 5 stars 「つくる」目的を再認識できる
