- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2013Excellent book. It was exactly what I needed to read -- a reality check on sound. I am an IDM/Electronic composer, and I needed that fresh perspective to take my pursuit of sound a step further. I am grateful for the work that Russolo did.
Only down side is that it REALLY makes you wonder what his noise instruments actually sounded like. They must have been incredible.
But that's not what I left this book thinking. I left it thinking:
1. Synthesizers are amazing, and I think Russolo would have loved them.
2. We NEED to create our own instruments, or music will become more and more dull.
3. Noise is a vast and endless universe of color. We need to use it more.
It was expensive as $%^$ for a tiny book though. But, that's life... lol.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2014A very interesting take on noise. Russolo was ahead of his time.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2005Ambient, noise, environmental, industrial and experimental musics ALL owe a debt to Luigi Russolo. This book captures so much of what these modern musics are trying to convey. Thank you, Luigi.
