I am embarrassed that I did not realise the depth of the terrible state the world is in due to the inability of the American people to recognize the monster that has taken root in its democracy. I accept all that Tarpley wrote in this extraordinary book. I have read enough conservative comments about this book and other books that uncover elements of this gigantic "other" government to know that they nibble away at odd little bits of the book's argument and then triumphantly write, "See, these leftist conspiracy nuts are wrong" and all is well in the land of the big myth. Unfortunately all is not well-not even a little bit well and its going to hell in a handbasket faster than the glaciers and the arctic are melting.
Tarpley's book has many facets, so many in fact that it is hard to deal with the entire book. The first sections of the 453 pages deals with the myth of 9/11 and all the manifold puzzle pieces that simply do not fit together. The last sections of the book deal with the bigger conspiracy that is at the bottom of the seemingly insanity that has been unfolding in America since 9/11.
I feel like I am living in some weird second dimension because just last week the TV was full of American shows eulogizing the victims of 9/11 and castigating bin Laden and al Qaeda followed by continuous cuts to Bush extolling Americans to submit to greater airplane checks and airport checks in order to defeat further Arab terrorism. There is so much information available now that demonstrares the absurdity of this gigantic myth but most Americans refuse to accept that they have been played for fools.
On page 309 and 310 at the end of his discussion about 9/11, Tarpley offers conclusions about the many inconsistencies in this myth. Anybody with a semi-open mind must find the complexity of the original myth far too pockmarked to simply be evenly plastered over by the ridiculous coverup of 9/11.
Chapter ten, immediately following the Conclusion section, offers far more difficult terrain for the unwary reader, as I was, to explore. Even an old conspiracy follower like me was completly gob smacked by the material presented by Tarpley. He lays out for absorbtion by the reader a blueprint of secret government so involved and so organized that even the President, a former member of The Skull and Bones Society while at Yale, seemed to be mystified as to the encompassing nature of that which confronted him. On page 298, a French investigative writer named Meyssan makes the claim that Bush was blackmailed into his "war on Terror" after he received messages over secure lines telling him that the ICBM codes were beyond his control and that his cooperation was demanded or certain events would unfold.
I would think that this allegation is too bizarre to countenance except that it is the only explanation for many seemingly more bizarre events that followed. For my wife and I, the most inexplicable behavior is that of Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister. He is nominally a socialist and would normally not follow such absurdly conservative American behavior; however, he has been a staunch supporter of Bush and his right-wing post-9/11 activities. So also my own Prime Minister, John Howard, a thoughtful conservative Liberal but now a follower of the odius American rigtists for these past five years. No-something is wrong! Something has scared these normally sane men into doing things that are out of character and fundamentally bizarre. Something scared them and it sure wasn't a known CIA patsy controlling the world with a laptop computer in an Afghan cave.
Rightwingers can excoriate Tarpley as they see fit but the overwhelming mass of evidence points to people who, for the reasons he explains, do not want the world to unfold in the way in which it has been unfolding. This oligarchy feels that they must do everything possible to control this unfolding so it happens as they want.
A fabulous, complicated book that should be read.
