Purchase options and add-ons

A disturbing exposé of the American government’s hidden agenda, before and after the Sept.11, 2001 terrorist attacks. A wide range of documents show U.S. officials knew in advance of the "Boeing bombing" plot, yet did nothing. Did the attacks fit in with plans for a more aggressive U.S. foreign policy? Nafeez Ahmed examines the evidence, direct and circumstantial, and lays it before the public in chilling detail: how FBI agents who uncovered the hijacking plot were muzzled, how CIA agents trained Al Qaeda members in terror tactics, how the Bush family profited from its business connections to the Bin Ladens, and from the Afghan war. A "must read" for anyone seeking to understand America’s New War on Terror.

This book proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same. The most scariest conclusion which I walked away with after reading this text, is that America is becoming the same imperialist monster which it freed itself from over 200 years ago. By placing it's citizens and other people in danger deliberately in order to pursue shallow and materialistic interests, this government is committing the biggest war crime in history. It has betrayed it's people to the enemy before, during and after the 9/11 attacks.
I liked this book very much. It is easy to follow, and I could not put it down. The author has stressed that his book is not the last and definitive word on the subject of who bears responsibility for the attacks, but nevertheless, the facts contained in this book must be seriously considered.
If you are tired of the constant barrage of propaganda, disinformation and slant regarding 9/11, courtesy of the U.S. government and the mass media, this book is a breath of fresh air. It will undoubtedly enlighten anyone who reads it, and will have you demanding answers from our "leaders."
My parents grew up behind the "Iron Curtain" and know all about government propaganda, war-mongering, and about what happens to people who openly disagree with the party line. That's why they are shocked that these same methods are starting to come into play here, in the United States. But what's worse, is that back there most people didn't listen to that garbage, but here in the U.S. most people do.
We must all remember two things:
1.) Truth is always the first casualty of war
2.) No country can preserve it's freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
We cannot hide behind blind patriotism when faced with facts, because then we are only denying that a problem exists. The American people must hear all facts of 9/11 from both sides and then make a decision on what should be done. This also is needed when it comes to the current situation with Iraq, and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
I highly recommend this book, and praise it's author for a good, and much needed informative work.

In reviewing Nafeez Ahmed's book, "The War on Terror", I would like to ask the following questions:.

Why were there no planes out of Andrew's Air Force Base in N.J. which is only 10 miles from the Pentagon? Remember, at 8:45 a.m. American Airlines #11 had already crashed into the North Tower of WTC. At 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175, again from Boston, crashed into the South Tower. Then, at 9:40 a.m., AA #77 from Dulles hits the Pentagon. There were 2 entire squadrons of combat ready fighter jets at Andrews. How could they not be engaged to protect the Washington area AFTER it was learned that both WTC's had been hit? Furthermore, the jets that were scrambled came from Otis National Guard Base in Cape Cod which was 70 miles away and from Langley which was 150 miles away. The reader can judge
for himself/herself as to the incompetence (or something else) that was occurring this day. (Page 152.)

A warning was sounded by Israel's Moussad and, of all sources, Vladimir Putin, that there was a terrorist plot prior to the weeks before Sept. 11, page 114.

Now the hair raising questions of "who" and "why". First, who were those who sought the opportunity to sell "short" stocks owned by American Airlines. Those "put" options are bought cheap but can return millions if they are on the money (no pun intended). (See pages 115 to 118). ECHELON, a U.S. sponsored intelligence network closely monitors stock trading. (Page 120). Since ESCHELON is taken seriously, why were there no alerts with regard to the intelligence community? incompetence or complicity? Or was it for the greater good as defined by FBI Special Agent, Tyrone Powers, page 132?

Is it by accident that Willie Brown, San Francisco's Mayor, was warned "not to catch a flight" that he was booked for the morning of Sept. 11. Also, Salman Rushdie was warned on Sept. 3 by the FAA, which made an "emergency ruling to prevent him from flying". In addition, a group of top Pentagon officials suddenly canceled travel plans the next morning because of security concerns". (Newsweek, Sept. 24.) Serious enough for them, but not for the general public. HMMM?

The book points out that the CIA and Bin Laden had ties, mostly in the beginning to support the Mujaheddin in an effort to thwart the move of the Soviets in Afghanistan. However, as Ahmed
Rashid points out in this book, "How a Holy War against the Soviets turned on U.S.", this policy was flawed. However, that didn't bother Bill Clinton nor his top aides because they did not anticipate that Al-Qaeda would turn against the U.S. even when they finally did, "they figured the U.S. would gain more from it in the long run". (?) So, was someone or some entity of the U.S. Government protecting bin Laden? Consider that 2 months before the 9/11/01 attacks, bin Laden flew to Dubai for 10 days for treatment in an "American Hospital" where he was visited by a CIA agent. (Page 208). He was also visited by Prince Turki al Faisal, who happened to be head of the Saudi Intelligence and who had links with the Taliban, and (obviously) bin Laden.

A general comment was made that "how could 19 hijackers fly 3 jumbo jets so precisely by learning only on small planes at Florida Flight Schools"? More disturbing is the fact that the Saudi's knew it and, in some cases, paid for this training even at military installations and the FBI knew it. (pages 103 to 110). However, more disturbing then this is the statement quoted in the London Guardian that was made by Mohamed Heikal, former Egyptian Foreign Minister regarding the "capability" of bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda network to be solely responsible for the 9/11/01 attacks. He stated that "bin Laden does not have the capabilities for an operation of this magnitude." He went on to say that bin Laden has been monitored by American, Egyptian, Saudi and Pakistani intelligence. "They could not have kept secret an operation that required such a degree of organization and sophistication." Others responded on questions that perhaps these hijackers learned on a flight simulator. The response was "that's like reaching your teenage daughter to take a driving course "on-line" and then for her first real test, place her on the interstate during rush hour".

This sentiment was echoed by Stan Goff, a retired U.S. special forces Master Sergeant, "This cartoon heavy they've turned bin Laden into, makes NO SENSE. When you begin to appreciate the complexity
and synchronicity of the attacks." (emphasis, mine, Page 220). Also, footnote 481, Goff, Stan, "The So-Called Evidence is a Farce".

Another echo was from the testimony of Milton Beardman, former director of CIA operations in Afghanistan when he said, "Look, if they didn't have an Osama bin Laden, they would invent one".

Former CIA officer Robert Baer, Case Officer in the Directorate of Operations for the CIA from 1976 to 1997, said in answer to the question, "Did bin Laden act alone, through his own Al-Qaida network, in launching the attacks", his response was, "About that I'm far more certain and emphatic: NO! (Emphasis, mine, Page 211.)

    So, who and why?

Throughout the book, there's a reference to the UNOCAL pipeline and the emphasis to "un-rely" on Gulf Oil and move that reliance to Afghanistan and the Caspian Sea region. Was this part of the Bush
Administration, other government agencies (CIA, FBI), the military industrial complex, the Big Oil Companies, is for the reader to decide.

When one reads this book, it is difficult to conclude that "other actors" did not have their hand in this event. More horrendous is the fact that this event was used as a pretext for war against Afghanistan
and its people. Consider how many Afghans lost their lives in this retaliatory strike against them. Consider how many of U.S. gals and guys, in this military endeavor that followed, lost life and limb in this
20 year war. I would be remiss if I didn't address those firefighters and policemen who lost their lives trying to save the injured at the Pentagon, WTC#1 and WTC#2. Consider how our emotions were
manipulated when we saw the Twin Towers collapse. We wanted the guilty brought to justice. From the above, is the old axiom now true: "We have met the enemy and it is us"?

Lastly, a quote from a former CIA director, William Casey, "We'll know our disinformation programs will be complete when everything the American public believes is false".

At the amazing age of 23, Mr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed has written a book of enormous emotional and intellectual maturity. It is true that much of the evidence is journalistic (and easy to check on the internet), not the best evidence, to be sure. He himself cautions that his analysis cannot be conclusive. It IS conclusive, in my opinion, in establishing the case for an independent, full-blown investigation of what really happened on September 11th in all its political, geo-political, and economic aspects. This is his aim.
Let us take note that while for people at every level of public life, lawyerly standards of evidence are indispensable for the avoidance of terrible mistakes, they often at the same time prove an unaffordable luxury. Just think of the investors and politicians alike who must predicate their decisions on evidence a court of law would reject.
It is true that Mr. Ahmed's argument is a conspiracy theory, but the same can be said for the government's case against Enron executives. As Enron investors know, conspiracies EXIST, and theories accounting for them cannot always draw on evidence satisfactory in a court of law, at least not always in time to save the victims. I have already said that Mr. Ahmed is quite aware of these limitations and NEVER ceases to alert the reader to them.
The book closes with an essay by John Leonard. Mr. Leonard differs with Mr. Ahmed on certain things but his essay at least has many good references and arguments for further thought. In the area of politics, I do not believe that he has the rigor or the sophistication of Mr. Ahmed. Nevertheless, his contribution complements Mr. Ahmed's to provide a richly faceted vehicle for comprehending our great national tragedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading to understand what is happening in the world today
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 30, 2009
11.09 has defined much of the 21st century to date. How did 11.09 come about? The individuals and agencies involved in the attacks, what exactly the event has defined and, most significantly, what it was intended to define, is the focus of this book.
But this is no half-baked conspiracy theory book: this is meticulously researched, abundantly referenced and lucidly argued. Not that argument is always necessary: often a juxtaposition of data will suffice, as in the excellent section on "the collapse of Standard Operating Procedures". In this chapter the author demonstrates how the established responses to events such as hi-jackings can only have been sabotaged at the highest level on 11.09. But the book explores, and documents, so much more. It explores the failure of US intelligence to warn the people of what they knew was going to happen. It analyses US interests both at home and abroad and the role of a controllable Afghanistan in the context of these desired scenarios. And it reveals an American elite guilty of aiding and abetting terrorism against its own people.
In short, if you wish to understand what's going on in the world today, this book is essential reading.
