If you are a fan of the "golden era" of hunting in East Africa you must read Aagard's Africa: A Hunter Remembers

Finn Aagard was one of the "old school" of professional hunters who was born and raised in Kenya "in the colonial days". His recollections of growing up are modest regarding his own achievements and have the clear unmistakable ring of truth and are both entertaining and informative. I have read several other books by Aagard and some parts of his books cover the same or similar stories or experiences. My recollection, however, is that this book includes his early years growing up in Kenya when Kenya was truly a frontier, learning to hunt at an early age, his terrifying experiences in suppressing the Mau Mau rebellion of the early 50's, and some more contemporary experiences as a professional hunter in Africa prior to Kenya achieving "independence" in 1964 (which plunged the region into tragic decades of genocide and economic and political courtesy of Jomo Kenyatta. Bottom line - if you are a fan of the "golden era" of hunting and life in East Africa than this book will be a real treat and you will have trouble putting it down.

Interesting perspective of hunting and living in Kenya

Finn has produced a very interesting account of the years of life as a farmer and hunter in Kenya before legal hunting was outlawed. His recollections are not quite so colorful as those of Peter Capstick, though probably more truthful. They allow a prospective of the life of a professional hunter that is not commonly available.
After you have read the rest, you owe it to yourself to read the best. Life is sometimes like that.
