The stories at the beginning were awesome, as they were in Pihkal

I saw a lot of people didn't receive this book as well, they felt it was lacking in comparison to Pihkal. I would disagree. There was less overall information but were also talking about a completely different class of drugs. The stories at the beginning were awesome, as they were in Pihkal. The chemistry and bioassays in the back were also awesome. Great book, if you like the Shulgins, you should own both books in my humble opinion you will find great value in both.

A great follow up to the groundbreaking exercise of first amendment rights that was PiHKAL. Sure, there's a whole lot of drug recipes in the back, but what's more fascinating is getting to know the mind of the man behind the compounds... his thoughts on science, technology, law, and society. I found the story of the DEA raid to be particularly entertaining. The world needs more Shulgins. Thank you, Sasha and Ann.

The fear used to be . . .

. . . that to be caught with this book could implicate the owner as a drug abuser. Now a drug user would be more indictable as an abuser were s/he to lack a working understanding of at least half of this book. Which half depends on the reader.

Not as interesting as Pikhal

Or maybe I was just tired of the subject matter and his research techniques -- "make 'em and taste 'em" -- by the time I finished Pikhal and started on Tikhal.

I needed to know about tryptamines for a criminal case I was working on, where my client was charged with selling various "controlled substance analogues". I was amazed to see that even DEA scientists accept Shulgin's work as something that they rely on.

PiHKAL and TiHKAL are amazing books. Not only are they great titles to have in any personal library, but they are informative and moving. The stories behind these chemicals are almost as beautiful as the chemicals themselves. I wouldn't recommend trying to produce any of these unless you're an amazing chemist on par with Shulgin himself.
