The First Census of the United States (1790), comprised an enumeration of the inhabitants of the present states of Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. Information includes: "Names of Head of Family;" "Free white males of 16 years and upward, including heads of families;" "Free white males under 16 years;" "Free white females, including heads of families;" "All other free persons;" "Slaves." The following tables or summaries are also provided: "Population of the United States as returned at the First Census, by states: 1790;" "Summary of population, by counties, towns, etc.: 1790;" and "Assistant marshals for the state: 1790." This Vermont census book, originally published by the Bureau of the Census in 1907 and reprinted here in 2001, is an excellent resource for anyone researching families in early Vermont!

I give five stars to this work. I recommend it if you are researching information on ancestors you know were in given area. Do enough research to determine if this is the census in the state that you need as there are other 1790 census for other states. I have a large number of relatives from this area at this time in history so it was of great benefit to me. It helped confirm the residence of known relatives and helped discover members of my family who were previously unknown such as brothers, sister and cousins. I would point out however; it would be valuable information in research of historical names for the writing of historical novels or the research of local history and the residence who resided in Maine in 1790.

Caution poor quality covering Vermont only

This book is terrible. Print is way to small to read without a magnifying glass, some pages are totally illegible. And what it doesn't tell you is it covers only the state of Vermont!!!!!! Nowhere does it indicate it is only for Vermont until you get it home and unwrap it.

Familes First Census of US 1790 MA

I confused this census with the NH census and am sorry that I found this not to my liking for costs. This was within the price that I thought it should be and was very please with price, condition and serivce and would do business again with this supplier.
