About the Author

DR. MEREDITH JUSTIN SPRUNGER is an ordained minister who has served various United Church of Christ congregations in the Midwest. He taught psychology at Elmhurst College and then at the Indiana Institute of Technology, where he was head of the Department of Psychology, chairman of the Division of Liberal Arts, and President. A student of the Urantia Book since 1956, Dr. Sprunger is the author of several Urantia Book-related works. He lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I have been a reader of the Urantia Book for 44 years. Quoting a friend of mine: "I believe the Urantia Book compiles the most accurate facts (truth) ever presented about God and Creation in 1935, a snapshot if you will." I would add that the UB effectively marries Science and religion in a most harmonious and effective way. This particular version is but an abbreviated version of a very large book. A great resource for those who have read and reread the main text over the years.

True, The urantia Book is a "language in and of itself," but it's worth it. Want to know the answers to more questions than you can even think to ask? Then give this a try...either the Abridged Papers or the whole 2000 + pages in The Urantia Book.

This book is a step in the right direction in "translating" the technical language that overwhelms the reader in the first half of the unabridged original. However, some on the most technical language is still used. But, overall, Sprunger's abridgment is helpful for the neophyte who is reading the original for the first time.

The UB is magnificent, BUT it lacks the promotion of religious equality. The UB only endorses Christianity. Christianity lacks compassion towards other beliefs; it claims that only via Jesus can heaven be attained, this is self-serving and prejudicial.

If you are not curious about the true nature of God, and who Jesus was, do not read this....it will destroy your belief that the bible is perfect.

The Abridged Urantia Papers by Dr Meredith Justin Sprunger is a condensation of the entire 9,358 pages (of 9x12cm page size) of the Fifth Epochal Revelation into a much smaller (about 2,000 pages or so) size. There are other attempts to condense The Urantia Papers, such as "The Story of Everything" by Michelle Klimesh, but this fine work of Dr Meredith Sprunger has the distinctiveness of keeping to the language of the original Revelation (except in the Foreword to Part I which is slightly simplified, but not too much).

The header "Part I" is printed in the wrong place, just like in almost all other editions of the Urantia Papers (i.e. except the British Study Edition thereof), but that is understandable --- a condensation ought to preserve even the mistakes rather than attempt to correct them and diverge from the original too far.

On the technical side, the only fault with the ebook I found was the extremely low default type size chosen for the text. However, through Kindle's type management function (key Aa) this is easily overcome by raising it to one of the higher settings and lowering it when you need to go to the Table of Contents.

Overall, I give five stars and I highly recommend this book to all who wish to familiarize themselves with the Great Epochal Revelation but who are not yet informed well enough to understand that they shall get maximum benefit from the diligently study of the original full work. For example, I recommended it to my 9 y/o daughter and she was very keen about the idea that she can cover the whole Foreword in an hour or so (it took us about a week to study the Foreword of the original work using the British Study Edition).
