- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2013So I knew about Kerry's latest book "Contacted II" because I read his first book "Contacted" and follow Kerry's blog posts on his website as well as SOFREP.com
First of all this is a great series and I hope that there is another book to follow. The ending has me hooked and wanting more.
This book does a lot to dispel rumors of what true contractors go through. Anyone who watches the crap that the media spews would be led to believe that contractors are mercenaries or hired guns. You would be led to think that these people care little more than for the money that they make. Kerry does an excellent job of bringing you into what life is truly like for contractors through the main character of Declan Collins, portrayed in the "Contracted" series.
This book introduces the reader to the complicated lifestyle of a contractor as Declan fights for approval of his medical claim for injuries sustained while serving the government, the balancing act of family life and intelligence operations against Hezbollah. With operations taking place in Jamaica and the Middle East, we the reader are given a glimpse into the behind the scenes world of contractors as they work to uncover clues, build reputations with contacts and gather crucial intelligence, all with the goal of preventing the spread of terrorism into the United States.
With a great supporting cast of characters this book will be a informative read for anyone that is interested in the war against extremist Islamic Terror groups. Kerry is an expert on the subject as he himself has served the US both in the military as well as a contractor. This book is fiction based on reality and will open your eyes to evils that most are not aware of.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2013Kerry Patton has done it again! After reading "Contracted: America's Secret Warriors, I anxiously awaited the next chapter of Declan Collins heroic life. As I started reading "Contracted II America's Terror Trackers, I realized I would not be able to put it down until I was finished, I was instantly hooked.
Not only is Declan a very likable character but Patton surrounds him with a great supporting cast. Patton's Knowledge and Expertise in the subject matter not only makes the experience entertaining but also very educational. As I sit here typing this, I again find myself anxious to read the next one. Job well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2013Once again, THE intelligence professional, Kerry Patton, has written one of the few books that are very difficult to put down. I bought this book less then 24 hours ago and just like Contracted 1, I could not put it down! The Superpatriots (Declan, Rex, Baba Rich, and Earl) are back and are ready to throat-kick some Hezbollah vermin!
Contracted 2 delves more into the world of intelligence and counterterrorism and also educates you on the intricacies of terrorist networks and how they operate throughout the world. It provides an amazing insight into the Smoke n' Mirrors/Cloak and Dagger world of intelligence operations taken against terrorist organizations. This book further emphasizes why the Global War on Terrorism was named the way it was.
This book highly resembles David Ignatius's "Agents of Innocence" and Wayne Simmon's "Natanz Directive" because it isn't just a spy novel, but it is also a lesson on the environment and the context where these intelligence operatives operate. It is a lesson on the geopolitics of counterterrorism and workings of the "Smoke n' Mirrors/Cloak and Dagger" world. In fact, Contracted 2 is like a 25 year sequel to "Agents of Innocence" just like Contracted 1 was a sequel to "Charlie Wilson's War"
The only issue that I have with the book is the same issue I have with Filet Mignon, so good but so little! The book is built around brevity and clarity and very straight to the point. The plot is very direct, does not drown you in pointless detail, flows from one chapter to another but ends before you know it. Then again, whenever a reader reads a book that is hard to put down, whether it is 200 or 500 pages, they will always want more.
Finally, the end of the book has such an epic cliffhanger that it gives you "Literature BlueBalls." I eagerly await the release of the next part of the "Contracted" Series and for those deciding whether or not to buy this book, you will not regret your decision.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2013Good book. One can easily tell Mr. Patton has a wealth of experience in the industry. Looking forward to the next book. Well done.
