I have waited nearly two years to find this as a used edition, because it's no longer in print. Previously sellers have wanted prices above $100.00 for it. It's part of a six volume set that was published by the National Genealogical Society with each book being published separately. I now have the complete set, and this book is, by far, the most important book of the set.
In trying to compare this book, I would like to share that I own 73 genealogy books and have read all of them. I have read another 54 volumes that I have borrowed from the local library. As for a comparison, I would suggest Sharon DeBartolo Carmack's book, Organizing Your Family History Search: Efficient & Effective Ways to Gather and Protect Your Genealogical Research (Cincinnati, OH: Betterway Books, 1999). It's somewhat familiar with Fleming's book, and I honestly couldn't say which one is better. They are both great, and do an excellent job at suggesting ways to organize yourself if you are a family historian.
I have been following some suggestions from Carmack's book, and have found them most useful. I have done so for several years, and wish I had had it when I first became a genealogist. Since reading Fleming's book twice, I have already added things that she has suggested to the way I operate. It's a great and practical resource guide. In fact, you should get all 6 of the volumes of this set. They are worth reading and having around for reference.
