The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, & Miracles Paperback – January 1, 2008

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 534 ratings

With more than 100,000 copies sold of his self-published book, The Biology of Belief, Bruce Lipton teams up with Hay House to bring his message to an even wider audience. This book is a groundbreaking work in the field of new biology, and it will forever change how you think about thinking. Through the research of Dr. Lipton and other leading-edge scientists, stunning new discoveries have been made about the interaction between your mind and body and the processes by which cells receive information. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology, that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our thoughts. Using simple language, illustrations, humor, and everyday examples, he demonstrates how the new science of Epigenetics is revolutionizing our understanding of the link between mind and matter and the profound effects it has on our personal lives and the collective life of our species.

I have a feeling this book is going to be awesome. One thing I wanted to point out is ...
I just received this, so I haven't read it yet- but I have read enough reviews and also listened to samples of his audio books. I have a feeling this book is going to be awesome. A nice thing I wanted to point out is that I like the size of the book (when holding). I also like the font size, the paper quality and how white the pages are (the contrast of black and white makes it easier to read). I look forward to diving into this book and reading more of his work :)Once I finish reading the book, I will come back and leave my comments on the content.

On one hand I have tried to find serious critique for Lipton's ideas and facts. But even if there are some people who say that someone is wrong - what it changes?

Bruce Lipton with this book revitalized my old curiosity for biology and life of cells. Some ideas are just outstanding - genes are just blueprints, while membrane is a brain, and constant communication with environment and each other shape our life.

I really like the idea that evolution may be guided not only by struggle but cooperation too. I was shocked to know that genes can be passed without reproduction mechanisms.

For a moment I think this book is worth reading for all the inspiration it gives. But beware PSYCH-K BS in the end is awkward, and I don't agree with spiritual and quantum physics based stuff.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it gave me enough food for thoughts and ideas to believe and try.

The `Biology of Belief' written by Bruce H. Lipton, a cell biologist, is a well-researched book. The idea that cells are smarter in performing complex tasks better than we humans consciously do is not a newly acquired fact. When Dr. Lipton got enlightenment, not unlike `Eureka' of Archimedes', when he was working at St. Georges University in Grenada (where I spent a week few years back), that DNA is a kind of servant of the cells and not the king, the way heart is a servant for all organs but the brain dominates, is dependent on the heart. He puts forth the cell membrane as controlling the activity of the various genes, through formation of second messengers.
For non-medical professionals, the first half of the book may sound too scholarly, a little difficult to understand, on the borderline of boredom.
Cell membranes react to the environment (`it's environment you stupid'), he stresses, and form, recycle receptors to adapt to the surroundings, sometimes in a harmful way to the whole body, which makes a lot of sense. From there, Dr. Lipton takes us on a journey through evolution, formation of the nervous system and how more than ninety percent of the functions of the body are done through our subconscious.
Our beliefs affect our health because our subconscious is where beliefs are rooted and that's where the programming the cellular functions takes place. He has a strong case to improve our health by reaching deep into our subconscious and change our beliefs.
He includes a chapter on parenting informing us how early in the life beliefs are formed and what can we do pass on healthy beliefs to our offspring.
In the end he gives us a larger picture of the stuff we are made of, touching the subjects of fractal geometry, how we are made in the image of the universe (avoids `image of the God'), the environmental changes and how they affect our behavior and so on.
He doesn't elaborate on the practical aspect of how one can reach the subconscious to change one's beliefs. He asks us to attend PSYCH-K workshops, which according to me are expensive.
Overall a good book but the chapters feel fragmented lacking in smooth transition from one topic to another.
The book opens a new vista, gives us a different perspective from the point of a cell biologist, leads to logical conclusions and above all is entertaining if you are a fan of the body-mind medicine.

This book is very scientific. It reminded me of all I learned in high school and college about cells - which has changed alot! If you believe that positive thinking has an impact on your life this book will tell you why it does. If you don't believe it then this book will tell you that it doesn't matter if you believe it or not - because it's in your cells. I absolutely devoured this book and now am going back and re-reading some it a little slower - I think Bruce Lipton is a pioneer in cell biology. It's a wonderful book that contains tons of information about cells, cell parts and their functions and what that ultimately has to do with our individual and collective lives. You should read it.

I first read this book several years ago and it is still one of the most recommended books I give to my clients. Bruce has a way of taking subject matter that could be very overwhelming for the average reader and making it easy to understand and interesting. I have had the privilege of hearing Bruce Lipton speak on two occasions in the last 6 months. He has an amazing ability to bring humor to the subject of science. Truly a gifted and enlightened individual and a very profound message. This book is a life changer.

I was fortunate to take a one day seminar with Dr. Bruise Lipton as the speaker. What he showed, in slide form, was basically his book, the Biology of Belief....

Just like the book, his lecture was a fascinating mixture of wit, brilliance, and facts to make people's brains s t r e a c h. A great read if you want to know what a man came up with from literally being intimate with "the cell" for 20 years and coming up with the concept (very quantum theory ish) that the cells --even when separated-- knew exactly what the other cells were feeling... think about it and much more with this great read. I'm an Int'l Certified BodyTalk Instructor and this book is a must read for my students of the BodyTalk System for growth and understanding.

Dr Bruce Lipton is an absolute master in his field and his devotion to helping humanity better their lives is something that we cannot dismiss. His message is clear and easy to comprehend and I thank him so much because had I not discovered Dr Bruce Lipton, I could never have changed the course of my life. Because of his remarkable content, he inspired me to write my books The Poison of Selfand A Story of Love - The Power of Stepping Into Your Vulnerability- both books are driven by my interpretation of the teachings from Dr.Bruce Lipton and the power of understanding who we are at a cellular level. If your life is in turmoil, by understanding your biology, you couldnt be the same person ever again.

A well founded scientific dissertation which leads to thought-provoking conclusions. On a biological basis, Dr. Lipton breaks away from the fundamental Darwinian theory that evolution is based on the struggle for survival. On the contrary it's based on collaboration, and the sooner we'll understand this the better, because, as it is, we are heading towards selfdestruction. - - The new ideas that Dr. Lipton brings forward are so many that it is impossible to give a full account of them. To mention a few, while expanding on the new science of epigenetic, the writer shows how we are not condamned by our genetic inheritance. We can fight against it even in the realm of illnesses and acquire control of our physiological and psychological behaviour. - - We are much more influenced by the environment to which we adjust through a "cell's awareness" - - Most of our character and behaviour is determined by our subconscious already in the first years, or even months of our life - and even from the time we are in the womb.. We are passively impressed by what we perceive from our physical and social environment. It remains only 5% of conscious decisions with which freely intervene on our behaviour, changing the pre-existing tendencies.
Science, mainly quantum physics and biology, leads dr. Lipton to very interesting spiritual insights; and he comes to the conclusion that we are "one thing with a bigger Universe/God". "We all represent ... a small part of God."
It's impossible to make justice to this booki in a few words. Although deep, it is clearly written and very enjoyable.
