Fashion Babylon Paperback – February 5, 2008
Purchase options and add-ons
Taking the reader through six months in a designer's life, Fashion Babylon follows an anonymous A-list British fashion designer looking to break out across the pond. Structured around three of the annual "must" industry events, this irresistible work of reportage goes inside the well-cut seams of the fashion world, where women are paid tens of thousands of dollars for simply getting dressed and where a wrong skirt length can cost you your career. You'll find out how a collection is put together -- from the objects of inspiration to the catwalk, into the shops and, hopefully, onto the cover of a magazine -- and learn who goes to the shows and where they sit...and whose backside they have to kiss to get there.
Witty, naughty and jam-packed with celebrity gossip, Fashion Babylon decodes the markups and the comedowns, the fabulous extremes and the shoddy shortcuts behind one of the most lucrative and secretive businesses in the world.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"A controversial, deeply researched look at fashion's international 'process.' [Edwards-Jones's] coauthors, billed as 'Anonymous,' are an unnamed selection of stringers whom she has evidently taken out for dinner, plied with alcohol and guaranteed anonymity; a promise that she honours. Happily, they appear to have gone to town." -- Evening Standard (UK)
"The revelations...leave you rubbing your hands with glee. The incidents are real, the celebrities play themselves...and everything you ever suspected is true." -- The Telegraph (UK)
"A shocking, hilarious and uncensored look at what really goes on behind the scenes in the fashion industry. I could not put it down." -- Candace Bushnell

The story here is partly credited to Anonymous, supposedly a top of the line designer in England, but one who has never quite made it across the Atlantic.
It's a fascinating look at an indistry, a lifestyle that most of us will never touch.
As an aspiring fashion designer about to begin a college degree in Fashion, and assuming the information in the book is true, I found this read to be very informative. It offers insights on how the industry operates, how everyone in it interacts/does business/socializes, how a small fashion house runs, and how a collection is conceptualized, designed, created and put on the runway. It really paints an excellent picture of what a designer must do to create a successful collection and maintain a successful label while offering funny celebrity and fashion gossip.
True or not, it's still an entertaining read, especially to those who love fashion.

Then Hotel Babylon!
Airline Babylon.
This one is in fourth place.
I have just very recently concluded *Wedding Babylon* which I enjoyed but only gave my first ever 4-Star Rating for a *Babylon Book*.
Fashion Babylon will also now be my 2nd one for 4-Stars only.
Its not that I didn't enjoy it, on the contrary I am amazed by how much Drug Taking is deemed normal behaviour when it comes to the Fashion Industry, quite the eye opener indeed!
For me this simply isn't an Industry I have been clamouring to dive into anytime soon.
The Designers named are all the legends we know but all the gossipy stories included we didn't know.
What does it take to pull off a hit collection?
Turns out selling your soul to make it in Fashion is the ultimate price.
Another entertaining entry from Imogen, not sure when I will read this one again but I am glad I did anyway.
