Well researched with plenty of citations in the footnotes to check for factual correctness. It's a bit telling how all the 1 star ratings are not verified purchases as they are quick to put it off as biased or not well researched. The fact that the book poses the direct quotes from the "liars" and then follows up with the direct quotes and at times entire passages from private correspondence from the founding fathers shows that these butthurt dolts didn't take the time to read before trolling the reviews section. Can't wait to read volume 2!

Liars for Jesus, Volume 1, is a detailed takedown of the lies of David Barton. I did not expect to ever read a book this detailed. It is concise and unpretentious. It leaves no oxygen for Barton and his cohort to use in refutation, Chris Rodda is an outstanding academic in the truest sense of the phrase.

Needed a stern editor

One can hardly complain about the content of this book: it's a thorough and effective refutation of the claims about the Founding Fathers that the religious right makes. The notorious David Barton is a particularly juicy target. The problem is that Rodda just doesn't know when to stop. A couple of pages on each of these topics is quite sufficient, but we've got almost 500 pages here, and this is only the first of three volumes! Barton's books are easy to refute: just reading some of the high-rated 1-star reviews here on Amazon is sufficient to totally demolish them in a few paragraphs. Rodda's book is like shooting fish in a barrel... with a machine gun. It's more than these books deserve. And, alas, anyone who takes Barton seriously isn't likely to bother to read Rodda's refutation of him anyway. His latest book (Jefferson Lies) was so bad that the publisher withdrew it. Barton then proceeded to republish it himself, and it's still selling briskly! A sad commentary on the low standards of religious right authors..

Chris Rodda exposes liars with clear and irrefutable facts and documents those with evidence to back it up, exposing liars like Barton who puts out a lie then after being exposed finally admits he lied (in many cases) but well after his lie has been propagated to millions who want to believe what he is saying. hese people are a clear and very present danger to the USA and our way of life as well as democracy itself!
