Purchase options and add-ons

This fascinating, interactive autobiography presents Chuck Close’s story, his art, and a discussion of the many processes he uses in the studio. The question-and-answer format is based on real kids’ inquiries about Close’s life and work, and his answers to them. Close, who is wheelchair-bound and paints with a brush strapped to his arm, discusses the severe dyslexia and face blindness he has struggled with since childhood, as well as a collapsed spinal artery that left him nearly paralyzed at the age of 48.
An engaging feature of the book is a mix-and-match Chuck Close self-portrait section. This hands-on component encourages the reader to create new and interesting combinations of Close’s techniques and images. The book also includes an illustrated chronology of Close’s life, a list of museums where his work can be seen, and an index.

Praise for Chuck Close: Face Book

This is a pretty amazing book. It's got all the basic info you'd want on Chuck Close, plus a bunch of his self portaits. The pages are cut into thirds so you can flip different sections of his face together, it's Preeti neat. It's not a long, self-indulgent autobiography, it's interview questions with common asks/answers.

This is a great biography about a very famous and contemporary living artist. And most important it is perfect for younger teens or older preteens. It is well presented with great artwork and with short interesting segments about Closes's amazing life.

I bought this for my 11 year old grandson who is a great little athlete but really enjoys art. He was engaged immediately. The book is a large size with all the colorful pages showing not only the actual art, but also a grid of how the huge canvas of the artist develops.

I have this book in a class of fifth graders. They love it, and it has held up well - considering how many hands have read it.

I have so much respect for Chuck Close as an artist and a human being. As a former public school art teacher I wish I'd had this book when I was teaching. It really is fun to look at and Mr. Close is so accessable. He shares so much with anyone who takes a moment to listen and this book is no exception. Parents read this book with your kids!

Livre à destination des enfants mais très appréciable par qui est intéressé par le travail de Chuck Close. C'est formidable d'avoir fait une partie en méli-mélo, dommage qu'il n'en existe pas une version française!
