- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2015Great read. A well-researched, troubling story of abuse of power by the infant post-WWII American intelligence community in Asia, foreshadowing the shameful, paranoid McCarthy Era in American history.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2013The Seagraves continue their superb writings. Red Sky is not as in depth as their normal major projects, perhaps because its a smaller undertaking and thus smaller in scope. The story centers on three men who meet in the PI, to undertake a program of getting rich quick. Only one truly survives. In a more important sense, the book provides further insight to the actions of WWII OSS and later CIA/DOD operations in the Philippines by then Lt. Col. Edward G. Lansdale and his recruited PI military associates. Lansdale was just becoming or revealing the textbook sociopath characteristics of those who tended to rise in the ranks of the intelligence community during and following WWII. The Seagraves give insight on his early career moves and activities that became his signature in his later life in Viet Nam, the Pentagon, and ultimately the White House and beyond. The reader must go to the Seagrave book: The Gold Warriors to fully appreciate the scope of Lansdale's "service" to the country. Additional info may be found in L. Fletcher Prouty's, JFK : The CIA, Vietnam and The Plot to Kill the President.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2016Very exiting real story. I read most of the books by Sterling and Peggy Seagrave. Big fan. Happy with this one too.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2010Excellent historical story - anyone in the military or DOD/Govt should read this.
I would recommend all service academies, all ROTC students be required to read the book.
When you read this book, you will understand some of the history of the Phillippines, history of the Southeast Asian theater, that you won't be taught in school.
I have seen the DVD "The trials of Henry Kissinger" and "The Fog Of War"/McNamara which I think are good movies of that period in time as well.
