Would you like to see... ... the United States budget balanced in one year? ... the $15 trillion debt gone in 10 years? ... the Internal Revenue Service abolished? ... a simple FairTax that would allow you to keep your entire paycheck with no deductions? ... a healthcare system based on free enterprise, not government bureaucracy? ... a free market based Social Security program that would let you control your own assets and leave an estate for your heirs? ... empowerment and entrepreneurship instead of entitlement and dependency? ... the United States respected again as the beacon of hope for the world? ... half of all non-violent inmates released from prison? ... an education system with competition through the use of vouchers so parents determine where their children go to school? On February 5, 2008, Marlin Thompson authored an online post “Benevolent Dictators Make Good Government”. Examples of benevolent dictators are King David – Israel – (1010 BC –970 B.C.) in ancient times and General Douglas McArthur – Japan – (1945 –1952) in modern times. Marlin started musing about what he would do if he were absolute dictator of the United States for one year to fast track our country back to a position of primacy and prosperity. The United States has outlasted, by 35 years, the world’s great civilization’s average of 200 years, but we are now on the road to bondage. This book details brief, concise, easy-to-understand ideas for restoring America to economic and military prominence. If these tenants were implemented, there would be full employment, and the United States would again be the symbol of hope for the world. No politician on the horizon has the guts to propose these concepts. They’re just whistling past the graveyard, but if we don’t do something radical, we are doomed. We are becoming increasingly addicted to government, and politicians are the dealers of the drug named “dependency”. The book is designed to make politicians and average citizens think about what could be possible.

About the Author

Marlin Thompson was born on a farm near Brocket, North Dakota on October 1, 1934. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from the University of North Dakota in 1957. He was an editor for two years on The Dakota Engineer, an in-school magazine. After graduation, he worked for Bendix Missile Division, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He worked nine years on the Talos and Typhon anti-aircraft missile programs for the U.S. Navy. He was the co-author of BxM-5000, a book on missile workmanship. During this time, he was active in Republican politics, working on the Barry Goldwater campaign in 1964. Marlin is an ultra-conservative constitutionalist. He joined M-D Pneumatics in Springfield, Missouri as a project manager designing and building lobe pumps for the wastewater and meat packing market. He wrote articles published in several national design magazines, including a fluid viscosity cross-reference chart that has become a standard for industry. Marlin holds 6 patents on pumps, electric motors, pneumatic cylinders, and material handling equipment. He is now a semi-retired owner of small company designing and building custom automation machinery. During this time, he authored a booklet on Engineering Documentation Systems, with an emphasis on an organized system for information retrieval. Marlin has submitted about 300 Letters to the Editor from a conservative perspective to local newspapers in Springfield, MO, and Roanoke, VA, for 35 years (with most published). Also, since 2006, he has submitted about 90 articles, on topics of current cultural and political interest, to an international website - PA Pundits International - that were all published. Marlin has written seven Christian articles on major scriptural subjects such as The Pre-incarnate Christ, Life After Life, The Origin of Evil, and God's Chosen People. He is presently working on a book about the history of Norwegian immigrant homesteaders in North Dakota and growing up to see the last of the old West before 1949, when the area he lived in got electricity, roads, and running water. He also continues to submit articles regularly to PA Pundits about topics of current cultural and political interest from a conservative perspective.

Mr. Thompson displays a keen knowledge of our Government and the huge expenditures by many different departments and agencies. I hope each candidate for President in 2016 will read this book and strongly consider suggestions and implications made by the author. Long before Trump and Carson were at the top in the polls, Mr. Thompson suggested their candidacies to the American public. It is an excellent book and not a long read.

This book, written by a very intelligent man, includes many thoughtful and realistic concepts. Time was when U.S. citizens believed in education and hard work to succeed. Now that idea is so retro. It has been replaced by the idea that elected officials should give handouts to their constituents. Every voter should read this book before he or she enters the voting booth in November.

While the book was difficult to read on two fronts, the first being the type face was smaller than comfortable for someone with AMD (age related macular-degeneration), and the second because I am a card carrying Liberal. I can remember the occasions in my youth when I spoke out in support of a public appearance of an unpopular or unconventional proponent for a cause. I wanted to know the "other side" of the issue. A Benevolent Dictator allows that scrutiny and much more.

Our system is broken. This book, A Benevolent Dictator, points toward most of the problems and some of the solutions. The great underlining theme of the book should be taken seriously. The country was founded by men who were willing to stand and say, "this is a JudeoChristian nation and our Constitution is written to protect all those coming to live and work in this great land." In this Mr. Thompson is right.

The book doesn't have to be read from front to back. Pick a topic from the Table of Contents and read what Mr. Thompson, and other conservatives, would do as a solution. And, your most important task. to think through the problem with the aid of the facts presented. Using the exaggeration of humor, Mr. Thompson has designed an easy read.

The book is well researched and provides for an understanding of the complexities that we as citizens have allowed to happen under the "name" of leadership from both parties. Our problems, as pointed out, have for the most part been self inflickted.

Read and see the changes resulting from the Seventeenth Amenment and the preocess of selecting legislators. What do you know of our abandonment of the gold standard?

A review of this book would be incomplete without a focus on chapter 30, "Israel", and chapter 31 , "Palestinians". The knowledge and thoughtful understanding of the major players in this long standing hostility is worth several times the cost of the book. Most alarming is the obvious lack of insight by many of our leaders as they seek to find a strategy for the US in this area of the world.

If you really want to make a difference in the future of our Country, Read this book, Think of the problems and solutions, Understand what it will take to fulfill the founders vision, and Act at the voting booth..

When the time comes to press the reset button on current government practice, this could become the "how to manual." Occam's Razor Theory applied to U.S. political and government processes.

This is an Excellent Book written by an Intelligent Man at just the right time. It is a Wake-Up Call for the many problems that face Our Great Country and all have Simple Answers if we just face up to them. The Common Sense Solutions are presented in a Understandable way and are also stated that these problems must be tackled or there won`t be the America we know and Love. This truly is a Book every American should read and express their opinion to their Congressmen about , but even more important vote the Problem Makers out of Office. This is a Watershed year that can Restore America if we have the courage to return to what made it Great. In Hosea the writer warns : My People perish through lack of Knowledge, but also the Rejection of Knowledge.......Gerry.......P.S. [September 3rd, 2012] I honestly believe that with the Truths Written, and the Quality of Writing and Preparation of Ideas Presented, with the Right Push this Book could be one of the Best Political Bestsellers Ever.
