In the tradition of Theodore White’s landmark books, the definitive look at how Donald J. Trump shocked the world to become president

From Roger Stone, a
New York Times bestselling author, longtime political adviser and friend to Donald Trump, and consummate Republican strategist, comes the first in-depth examination of how Trump’s campaign tapped into the national mood to deliver a stunning victory that almost no one saw coming.

In the early hours of November 9, 2016, one of the most contentious, polarizing, and vicious presidential races came to an abrupt and unexpected end when heavily favored presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton called Donald J. Trump to concede, shocking a nation that had, only hours before, given little credence to his chances. Donald Trump pulled the greatest upset in American political history despite a torrent of invective and dismissal of the mainstream media. Here is the first definitive explanation about how the “silent majority” shifted the election to Donald Trump in reliable Democratic Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, thus handing him the presidency.

Stone, a long time Trump retainer and confidant, gives us the inside story of how Donald Trump almost single-handedly harnessed discontent among “Forgotten Americans” despite running a guerrilla-style grass roots campaign to compete with the smooth running and free-spending Clinton political machine.

From the start, Trump’s campaign was unlike any seen on the national stage—combative, maverick, and fearless. Trump’s nomination was the hostile takeover of the Republican party and a resounding repudiation of the failed leadership of both parties whose policies have brought America to the brink of financial collapse as well as endangering our national security.

Here Stone outlines how Donald Trump skillfully ran as the anti-Open Borders candidate as well as a supporter of American sovereignty, and how he used the Globalist trade deals like NAFTA to win over three of ten Bernie Sanders supporters. The veteran adviser to Nixon, Reagan, and Trump charts the rise of the alt-conservative media and the end of the mainstream media monopoly on voter impacting information dissemination. This is an insider’s view that includes studying opposition research into Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton’s crimes, and the struggle by the Republican establishment to stop Trump and how they underestimated him. Stone chronicles Trump’s triumph in three debates where he skillfully lowered expectation levels but skewered Mrs. Clinton for the corruption of the Clinton Foundation, her mishandling of government email, and her incompetence as Secretary of State.

Stone gives us the inside word on Julian Assange, Wikileaks, Clinton campaign chief John Podesta, Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner, Carlos Danger, Doug Band, Jeffery Epstein, and the efforts to hide the former first lady’s infirmities and health problems. Stone dissects the phony narrative that Trump was in cahoots with Russian strongman Vladimir Putin or that the e-mails released by Wikileaks came from the Russians.

The grizzled political veteran of ten Republican presidential campaigns from Richard Nixon to Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump explains how Trump’s election has averted near certain war with Russia over Syria and the rejection of the neocon policies of the Obama/Clinton Administration.

The Making of the President 2016 reveals how Trump brilliantly picked at Hillary Clinton’s weaknesses, particularly her reputation as a crooked insider, and ignited the passions of out-of-work white men and women from the rust belt and beyond, at a time when millions of Americans desperately wanted change. Stone also reveals how and why the mainstream media got it wrong, including how the polls were loaded and completely misunderstood who would vote.

Stone's analysis is akin to Theodore H. White’s seminal book
The Making of the President 1960. It is both a sweeping analysis of the trends that elected Trump as well as the war stories of a hard-bitten political survivor who Donald Trump called “one tough cookie."

Roger Stone has authored or co-authored the following books:

The Man Who Killed Kennedy, a New York Times bestseller in which Roger Stone makes a compelling case that Lyndon Baines Johnson was the mastermind behind the murder of President John F. Kennedy. Stone maps out LBJ’s motives for orchestrating the murder and uses fingerprint evidence and testimony to prove JFK was shot by a long-time LBJ hit man—not Lee Harvey Oswald.

Nixon’s Secrets gives the inside scoop on Nixon’s rise and fall in Watergate. Stone charts Nixon’s rise from election to Congress in 1946 to the White House in 1968 after his razor-thin loss to John Kennedy in 1960, his disastrous campaign for Governor of California in 1962 and the greatest comeback in American Presidential history.

Jeb and the Bush Crime Family, in which Stone collaborates with Saint John Hunt to make this a “no-holds-barred” history of the Bush family. After detailing the vast litany of Jeb’s misdeeds, Stone travels back to Samuel, Prescott, George H. W., and George W. Bush to weave an epic story of privilege, greed, corruption, drug profiteering, assassination, and lies. This exposition will have you asking, “Why aren't these people in prison?”

The Clintons’ War on Women, where Roger Stone and historian Robert Morrow uncover the explosive and ugly truths about Bill and Hillary’s crimes and cover-ups. They reveal the damning details about their actions in Arkansas, during Bill Clinton’s scandalous time in the White House, about who really ordered the deadly attack on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, during Hillary’s federally-investigated tenure as secretary of state, about their time at the corrupt Clinton Foundation, and during Hillary’s failed campaign for president.

A riveting insider blow by blow account of the Donald Trump phenomenon
5 out of 5 stars
A riveting insider blow by blow account of the Donald Trump phenomenon
Roger Stone’s The Making of the President 2016 is a riveting insider blow by blow account of the Donald Trump phenomenon and his unstoppable ascendency to the White House. Stone chronicles the roots of Trump’s media prowess, and describes how he easily dispatched less savvy professional political opponents again and again. Stone’s extensive analysis of Trump’s inroads into the African American voting block is an unreported and ground breaking story that the media has avoided – and also the Democrat's worst nightmare come true. Above all, Stone’s passion for both Trump and America, and their traditional values that made America so successful, resonate throughout the book. As for Roger Stone himself, the reader will conclude that Stone is neither black arts practitioner nor dirty trickster, but rather a mensch who cares deeply about freedom, justice, and liberty for all. Highly recommended!

This has to be the definitive book on this historic election.
Roger Stone is a brilliant, controversial person who has been involved in each of the last nine presidential elections since Richard Nixon's election. He has been a close friend and advisor to Donald Trump for 38 years, since meeting him in 1979... and probably knows him better than anyone else. The book is extraordinarily interesting, a fast, easy read, with facts, fascinating details and anecdotes few others would know, supported by hundreds of references and footnotes.
Some of the revelations include: Trump's first consideration of a run for the presidency, for the Reform Party in 1999-2000; why he withdrew; why he reconsidered again in 2012 but deferred to Romney… and then for this critical election:
    How Hillary Clinton got the MSM behind her despite no one being able to name a single major accomplishment of hers; the FACT BACKED incredibly corrupt role of the MSM, the extent of the MANY dirty tricks used by the Clintons; how Trump hijacked and won the Republican primaries, the importance of the very under estimated Alex Jones and InfoWars; the key roles of Judicial Watch, Drudge Report and others; who the good guys and bad guys are in each camp; the incredible money laundering around Podesta; the stories about the Clinton Foundation; how Hillary stole the Democratic nomination; the real reasons why her platform didn't work; the real effect of WikiLeaks and why she REALLY lost; the truth about her illnesses; how the polls were loaded and missed the real voters; exposure of the true paid protestors; the incredible story of Huma, Saudi spy? The role of the CIA; it wasn't the Russians… and the MANY reasons Trump won, despite several missteps, through brilliant strategies, key team members, very effective use of social media, bypassing the MSM, hard work and INFORMATION; the roles of Tony Fabrizio, Jared... and DATA;
This definitive work concludes with how Trump won the closing argument, why and how President Trump is our best hope of returning to a nation of winners ...and what is to come beyond the Soros sponsored riots and the possibility of one of the greatest presidencies.

The Making of the President 2016 is a no holds barred look at the 2016 election in which now President Donald Trump pulled off the biggest upset in American political history (even more so than Truman vs. Dewey). The book begins with a bit of a history of Trump entertaining previous presidential runs (he almost went through with it in the Reform Party in 2000 before backing out), all the way through to his decision to run in 2016. You will be taken through the primaries, the general election, and the subsequent aftermath.

As is typical to Roger Stone, he does not hold back. As someone who paid close attention to this presidential race (the first time I voted in a presidential primary as a Republican, I'm a former Democrat), I still learned new things from this book. Though Stone is an insider and a friend of Trump's, he has no problem pointing out mistakes that were made in both the primary season and general election. What's interesting is how Trump not only overcame his errors (and yes, he is not perfect and I won't claim that he is) but in many cases, turned them to an advantage, much like any successful business person does.

As you would also expect, Stone casts a light on the corrupt media, the theft of the Democratic nomination by Hillary Clinton and the DNC from Bernie Sanders, and the all out hypocrisy of the left which is part of the reason many centrist Democrats are no longer Democrats. Stone backs everything up with sources and is his typical, thorough self.

Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever, this book is something all Americans with an interest in the political system should read. And yes, any Democrat who still thinks for his/her self should read this (the only way to get your party back is to acknowledge how far it has fallen). Be informed. Turn off the lying media like CNN and look here.

5.0 out of 5 stars the amazing spending spree with no end in sight
Reviewed in Canada on March 26, 2017
The author, Roger Stone, is a friend and supporter of President Donald J. Trump and describes in a straightforward, but engrossing manner, the path taken by Mr. Trump to the Presidency of the United States; it is so captivating that I read the entire book in two sittings. While I had followed the campaign and election with interest and was familiar with most but not all of the issues, their collection paints a new picture of the struggle. The detailed research undertaken by both Democratic and Republican Parties to uncover weaknesses in the other is astounding. The Democrats criticized Trump over his tax returns and his colorful language but failed to show concrete evidence of wrongdoing. On the other hand, the misdeeds of the Clintons are a matter of public record. Nevertheless, further allegations made by the author against the Clintons and their cronies and their Party are so damning that it is difficult to understand why he is not being sued for libel. One can only assume that he is confident that he can prove that the allegations are true.

The book provides a glimpse into likely conduct during the upcoming Canadian election in 2019. We note that the Trudeau policies were designed on the assumption that the left wing Obama regime would continue under Clinton; in fact Democratic Party advisors helped with his campaign. There are many similarities between what has happened in the U.S. and what is occurring in Canada. The obvious ones are the failure to keep election promises, the amazing spending spree with no end in sight, the rising tide of leftish political correctness, the kowtowing to Islam (I wager that most proponents of this have never even cracked open a Koran, let alone studied one), and the failure to allocate additional funding to the military. It was amusing to watch Mr. Environment-Trudeau's face while feigning enthusiasm for Keystone XL during a recent press-conference. However, his fawning admiration of Communist Dictators goes well beyond Obama.

Another common feature is the stance taken by the mainstream media, which is heavily biased leftwards. For example, Don Martin of CTV repeatedly refers to President Trump as "unpredictable", and remarked during an episode of Power Play that the President "has the attention span of a gnat". John Kelly was heavily criticized for his warning about air-terrorism but at least Martin had the decency to look sheepish, when the U.K. banned laptops along with the U.S. The same strategies were used against former PM Stephen Harper as were employed against Donald Trump: there was much scoffing, sneering, denigration and exaggeration and this continues even today. It seems that members of the media believe that they have a duty to impose a regimen of social engineering on the populace at large. This seems to derive from their inflated opinion as self-styled intellectuals, almost certainly a result of a badly biased and mediocre educational system.

By 2019 we can expect the present fantasy world of the Liberals to dissolve and candidates will have to bow to reality. If the book is any guide, there will be serious questions about extra-marital peccadilloes, the Trudeau Foundation and its use as a slush fund as well as its relationships with donors and their federally funded organizations. Principal issues are likely to be North American values honed by over 2000 years of continuous effort versus half-baked concepts of radical multiculturalism.

Reviewed in Spain on July 16, 2018

5.0 out of 5 stars Stone's book is an excellent narrative of the Trump success.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 16, 2017
This is an excellent narrative of Trump's path to the Presidency. As a UK observer of the US political scene I found the Making of the President a compelling read. Roger Stone's inside knowledge gained over many years provides a unique insight into a remarkable journey. The book is packed with interesting and compelling detail that captures the complexity of the US election process. Stone's skill is to present this in a style that is easy to follow and lays bare the intricate web of the tangled relationships of all the key players. The book flows like a good thriller linking events from as far back as the Cuban crisis through to the Clinton phone call to President Trump conceding the race to the Whitehouse. In addition the book records the failure of the mainstream media to control the outcome of the election and the success that President Trump had in reaching out to the US voters through the use of social media and the old fashioned hustings. Pressing the flesh with his energetic and remarkably successful public rallies. This is a must read for anyone who is looking for an all encompassing commentary on the most remarkable political success of the twenty first century. Well done Mr Stone.
