This book traces the history of Islam and the roots of ISIS, explaining what it wants, how it recruits its followers, and why it is so barbaric. We quote Koranic chapter and verse (in both Arabic and English) to show how every diabolical “punishment” ISIS inflicts on others is not only in flat contradiction of the Holy Book, but threatens to destroy the world’s second largest religion. Throughout, we stress that it is only Muslims themselves who can rid the world of this terrible scourge. As we address our readers directly in chapter 10, our final exhortation refers to Malala Yousafzai: You are 23% of the world, 99% of the true Muslims pitted against the 1% of false ones. If ever the odds were stacked in a people’s favor in their battle against the evil that is ISIS, they are stacked in yours. Consider what one little Muslim girl who had half her face almost blown away by a Taliban bullet has accomplished. If Malala can persuade the Pakistan government to pass its first Right To Free Education Bill for all girls and boys, just imagine what nearly 1.6 billion Malala’s could do to vanquish ISIS once and for all.

There is a narrative espoused by some American politicians that Islam is somehow to blame for the horrible barbarities of the terrorist group ISIS. In this fiery, fascinating polemic Arabic scholar David Stansfield mounts a scathing rejection of this view. Far from being inspired by true Islam ISIS is a vile perversion of a great religion. For example where Islam forbids the killing of the innocent ISIS encourages it. Where Islam forbids enslaving people ISIS openly promises slave girls to its converts. Where Islam forbids torture ISIS makes a revolting spectacle of it. ISIS is nothing less than a barbaric cult which makes a brazen appeal to the world's deprived and disaffected youth, mainly through the cunning use of social media.

This is its vulnerability, Stansfield argues. Where bombs and boots on the ground have failed, the massive reach of the internet can be harnessed to smash ISIS's credibility. Instead of being "cool" it should be portrayed as a throwback to the dark ages that richly deserves universal contempt.

A highly readable and provocative book.

Islam vs. ISIS by David Stansfield is a fast read. (There are 400 images that are interspersed throughout the text).

Stansfield compares the 1.6 billion moslems to the 1% of radical ISIS followers. 99% of Moslems denounce ISIS - they may be secular, conservative or orthodox and populate the Earth from North America to the Asia Pacific region.

For those of us who are unfamiliar, this book will clear up any misconceptions that the media, politicians or the ignorant may hold - some who may even benefit from the purposeful conflation of ISIS and the rest of Islam.

A must read for those who wish to understand our world a little better.

This book should be required reading for those who hear frequently-used terms in the news about ISIS but really have no clue what it all means.
David artfully untangles their complex code of ethics as well as elements that
    lure followers into their ranks.
He points up the differences between ISIS' beliefs and those of Islam as a whole.
In typical David Stansfield style, he condenses mountains of important facts and terms into a concise
and clearly readable text like no one else can, so readers will have a better understanding of what is really going on.

This is a perfect book to learn the basics of Islam and the difference between Islam and its malignant cousin, ISIS, The book is written by a master of instructional design, i.e., with attention to simple language and constructed so that it builds knowledge carefully. In an ideal world this book should be required reading for high school seniors and /or college freshmen. General readers will profit from learning how to distinguish nonsense about Islam and what one of the world's largest religion's dogmas really are.

It is a rare confluence of circumstance that produces a primer that doubles as a reference text.
The subject must be dauntingly complex and its interpreter a sympathetic as well as a masterful analyst. Stansfield fills the bill with this small volume for every civics teacher, "newscaster," or intelligence officer. But warmongers and Neo-cons beware, the futility of perpetual war is on display.

    Biased, misleading book.

To get an accurate picture of Islam, read the book "The Muhammad Code: How a desert prophet brought you ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram" by Howard Bloom.
