With over six decades to chose from I always had trouble getting started. This one gives me the courage to start...
Only one caveat: the "Classic" means that it stops upgrading around 1996, before the internet took off. All directions are for handwritten entries, so don't expect any tips on social networking, online searches etc.
(And of course, the weekend I started to write on my computer my printer quit - no replacement available with all the people looking to complete their home offices)...

Wonderful! I have had a very interesting life and wanted to write my memoirs but had no clue how to do this. I don’t expect a best seller out of this but my children will be able to travel with me through the years.

This book is the best I have found on this subject! The author has led workshops for many years, helping people write their own life story. It is done in such a practical way - not teaching writers to record their whole life from beginning to end. But rather the projects is organized by very manageable assignments which make it fun and practical. As I said, this is the best book I have found, encouraging me to write my memories down!

Because I signed on to teach a memoir class, I searched out various books on the subject for new insight. After perusing several, this was the book I selected to model my class after . . . with a few modifications.
Because I was teaching this class at a Senior Center, I wanted to keep it non-complex and stimulating, with some type of a quasi-finished product at the end of the nine weeks. To me, this book fit my needs!
Fun to read, insightful, full of ideas and prompt to fuel the brain and pull those memories from the basement. I would highly recommend this to anyone teaching, writing their own or helping someone else to write theirs. A great guideline.

Have purchased a lot of books on personal history writing since I teach writing personal and family narratives. This is not one of the better books on the topic, but it does give some general information that could help someone get started.

I bought the book thinking that it was going to be a non fiction autobiography. Therefore I didn't like it that much.
