It has a lot of forms you can copy and use, but the first part of the book is aimed for younger people than me starting this. I'm now the second oldest person in my family. But I still recommend the book.

"Unpuzzling Your Past - A Basic Guide to Genealogy" is a comprehensive resource tool for beginning a scientific, thorough, systematic search for information on your ancestors. Croom provides five generation charts and family group sheets for recording the information gleaned through your search.

I found the chapters covering family traditions, sources available, and the use of computers and software especially interesting and helpful. Early chapters helped me establish a strategy for beginning my research. The completed sample charts provided me with ideas for collecting, researching, and recording my personal family history as well as the kinds of information to include in my research. The suggested interview questions are another valuable tool for frequent reference as I get further along in the process.

The Third edition I have provides still provides the basics for beginners. It is well organized and practical. The Appendix includes a glossary, a extensive resource list, regional, state, and national archives, libraries and archives, a source listing of census records, numerous chart templates, and a complete index.

"Unpuzzling Your Past" your past is an excellent reference guide, resource tool, an outstanding basic guide to genealogy.
