It is also a valuable tool for flight instructors as a teaching aid. This is the Basic Helicopter Handbook (Advisory Circular 61-13B) updated and renamed. This is FAA handbook FAA-H-8083-21.

A very well written book explaining many areas of helicopter flight. I found everything to be written very well, and was benefitted by the color graphs, pictures, and layouts concerning all the intricacies of helicopter flight. If you are interested in helicoipter flight, or are wanting a more in-depth look into all the aspects of rotorcraft flight, this is the perfect book to buy, hands down. From basic flight controls, flight in general and in-depth looks into aerodynamics, this book has it all. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a more thorough knowledge of rotary wing flight; beginner to expert, this book will compliment anyone's knowledge and skill when it comes to helicopter flight.

Sometimes a tough read but there is a wealth of information in this book for rotorcraft pilots. I believe this gives a good place to start before studying for the FAA exams. In depth on helicopter controls and what they do. Some chapters get a little dry but are necessary reading. Overall I would say it is a must have book. Very pleased with my digital purchase allowing me to read on my iPad, Samsung galaxy 7 inch tab and even my smart phone anywhere I am.

The maneuvers in this book are the way you should fly. This is written by the FAA with years of research and access to countless accident reports. If you fly helicopters and don't fly as described in this, you are inviting disaster. I don't know how many idiot CFIs I've heard with all kinds of ways of getting into settling with power (as an example)...such as 2000' OGE tailwind hovers to initiate...Read this book. This is the only way you should fly - as described herein.

It isn't great literature but there are very few wasted words in this book, which is the only textbook used at the flight school where I have been getting my helicopter training. The color diagrams and charts are immensely helpful in understanding aerodynamics. This book teaches you pretty much everything useful for flying helicopters that you can learn from reading a book (i.e., not all that much; don't expect to hold a hover until after a few hours of painful practice).

I love this book. I bought it for a course I was taking but there is so much good info in this book. Although I don't work in aviation I can still refer to this book regularly. Who knew I'd need to know such information.

Excellent source of information for both the helicopter and gyrocopter. With several chapters devoted to the gyrocopter. The context of the book includes tables graphs photos of the aircraft parts, historical details as well as FYI information for pilots that are frequently forgotten or overlooked when flying.

Got it for my husband , it is just what one needs to prepare for this sport. He loved it.

I understand that many others received a colored copy, based on reviews that I used to order this, but it is apparently HIT or MISS. I was about to return it but Amazon customer service is outstanding, as usual, and refunded.
The content of this book is extremely valuable for your Helicopter Check Ride, or if you simply are an enthusiast for Helicopter flight performances/physics. It has a lot of the SAME information as the excellent Helicopter Flying Handbook, but with MANY additional illustrations and details, hence, the full purpose of having FULL COLOR. Especially with regard to Airport Beacons, Aircraft Lighting, and Traffic patterns, all of which that can be life threatening if not visually understood.
Side comment: If it isn't in color, then what is the point of buying hardcopy if you can print it out from FAA.gov in color with the same price spent in Ink and paper. Most people may comprehend information of studies just fine in black and white like back in the prime days of the Printing Press, but the Rotorcraft Flying Handbook in hardcopy color helps others a lot to visually memorize things for the Check Ride or during pilot manuevers. I will continue my search for the hardcopy Colored RFH, or just settle for the Kindle E-book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute essential overview of rotorcraft; condenced, concise and great for quick reference.

The book is now one of my essential books on rotorcraft. The book is great as a quick reference being condenced and concise. Other books have better detailed in-depth information and explainations but this one sums it up very, very well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buch sehr gut, Beschreibung teilweise irreführend!
