    As soon as I heard Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" appear as the definitive soundtrack for all things 9/11 during the initial grim days of this national tragedy, I had the sneaky suspicion that the event itself would wrap around us as an emotional blanket of perpetual grief and fear, smothering us to the cause of this effect, but warming us to a nationalistic zeal unmeasured in our history. There are countless books chronicalling the arrogance, calumny, deception, and criminality of the Bush administration, and even if all of his minions and Bush himself were jailed for their collective crimes against humanity, what they have done in all other constitutional and other matters pales in comparison to what "9/11 and the American Empire" suggests they've done in regard to 9/11 itself. I normally recoil from the culture of conspiracy, choosing to seek a sober, data-driven, argument for cause and effect relationships. In many ways this book achieves that in a refreshingly cold-hearted way. Subtracting the emotion from its charge, the authors argue cooly for the plausibility that a cadre of neo-cons were dedicated to advancing American hegemony, ignoring the rationale it takes to warrant Empire, and ignoring the lessons history has given them to recoil from pursuing Empire. If you have your own suspicions about the nature of anything 9/11, you owe it to your own curiosity to read this book. When it settles on you that a greater truth is out there beyond what the vapid mass media reports, then you'll have to decide for yourself whether to recoil from a harder truth that our government is in the grips of a new kind of fascism, or just turn away, shrug in disbelief, and change the channel and hope for the best.Finally, those who dismiss any scholarship on seeking the truth on 9/11 should embrace skepticism for its own sake, for doubting the motives of those who have abused authority and power is at the very core of democratic thinking and the very founding of our constitutional republic. The secrecy of the Bush administration, couched as it is in claims of national security, is cause for great concern. The very fact, verifiable even in the most flaccid journal of mass media, that Bush did NOT want 9/11 investigated suggests culpability.Though I do not want to believe my country's leaders would concoct such a monstrous offense to America and the world, I believe skepticism warrants a vigorous investigation into this terrible tragedy.

    My seminal library on the subject of 9/11 kicked off with a couple of so-so reads that for our purposes need not be identified here. This volume, however, packs exactly the sort of punch I was looking for as an alternative to browsing endless websites, only some of which seem credible ie. the 9/11Truth sites: Engineers, Architects, Pilots.
    A number of highly-credentialed spokespersons from academia and the professions register opinions and observations on 9/11 within their own areas of expertise. I have become fairly adept at sorting wheat from chaff on the subject of 9/11 controversy; the more one reads, the better informed and better able to discern mere puff and hysteria from hard data one becomes. With this in mind, I warmly recommend this volume as a perfect starting point for 9/11 neophytes, and a solid addition to the reference libraries of those farther along the road. Something terrible happened that day but as a certain famous literary character says, There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophies.. or, I might paraphrase, in your politically-correctness and pseudo-patriotism. Gentle reader, I hope you will read this and profit by it.

    People always ask where to go if they are to begin to believe what I just told them. I hand them this book. When it comes to 9/11 Griffin and Scott are the gate keepers. Scott takes time. He has some interesting stories to tell. Stories that must be out there. Griffin does too. I remember someone said of one of his books that if only 30% was true that would be astonishing. This is one of those books we need to hand to Bernie Sanders. You can read it in a short time. It's the place to start on 9/11.

Like all his work, this book presents evidence which can only have one conclusion, inside job and cover-up and begs the question why the main stream media is not screaming for a new investigation. If you read any of his critics they find no fault with the evidence but can not imagine the Government doing such a thing. These individuals need to read their history, Pearl Harbor, JFK, Gulf of Tonkin, Pentagon Papers, Watergate Northwood, Iran Contra, Venezuela, Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, Waco to name a few. A history of lying and cover-up and they will keep on doing it as long as corporate mass media keeps silent. Follow the money and ask who benefited?

    This is a great introduction to the alternate, probable reality of what really happened on 9/11, written by various scientists, experts, academic professors & high ranking military people, who know what they are talking about! It is not written by some kid, in black, who has spent his teens in his bedroom, dreaming-up stuff. This book punches above its weight but it is still an excellent introduction to the issues. It has a very easy to read format, and it's hard to put down, by being presented in chapters individually written by experts in their field. The only better books, in this reviewer's opinion, are David Ray Griffin's "New Pearl Harbour", and it's essential twin volume and update, "New Pearl Harbour Revisted".

    Please note that the reviewer on this page who has given this 1-star is a shill-reviewer, i.e. someone working, and probably being paid, to stop you reading this book. The same 1-star reviewer has recorded many, many 1-star reviews on all of the alternative theory 911 books and DVDs, no matter which author or film-maker has made them! He records similarly bad reviews upon re-issues of the same book or dvd. His many reviews are constantly negative, no matter what the individual merits or flaws of the books or DVDs are. It seems he works for someone whose interest lies in you not reading these books. The only items he gives good reviews to are government-backed versions of events.

    Well then, why should you buy this book?

    David Ray Griffin is the author of "The New Pearl Harbor" and a leading 9/11 investigator and lecturer. He and his colleagues, including some well-known names in the 9/11 Truth Movement, like Steven Jones and Kevin Ryan, put the case under the microscope and bring their powerful intellects to bear on the subject.

    Evidence in homicide cases generally falls into place with the passage of time, but since the horrific events of that day, the mystery has deepened and the official explanation of the events has been shown to be deeply flawed, to say the least.

    One by one the contributors in their various ways show that the explanations given out by the mainstream media simply do not stand up under detailed scrutiny.

    For example - and in many peoples' minds the most glaring inaccuracy of the official account - how could the impacts and the conventional fires that followed, cause the buildings to collapse almost straight down and at virtually free-fall speed? A "pancake" collapse could not have caused roughly 80 floors to disappear in the space of about 10 seconds - that's 8 floors every second. There would have been steel and debris lurching, toppling and haphazardly falling all around. Instead there was a smooth descent of the structures usually seen only in controlled demolition.

    As pointed out by Dr. Steven Jones, the existence of molten metal several weeks after the events, is completely illogical. It is a fact that conventional fire cannot exceed, and never has exceeded, about 1700 degrees Fahrenheit. Steel does not even begin to melt until it reaches 2,800 degrees. The only explanation, he argues, is that heat-producing substances such as thermite, must have been used. There have been previous cases of fire in high-rise steel-framed buildings, which burned for much longer than the World Trade Centre, and remained standing. Another important consideration is the fact that most of the content of the buildings appears to have been turned to dust - pulverised. Would conventional fire have caused this?

    Karen Kwiatkowski was present at the Pentagon that day and gives a graphic first-hand account of the events. Along with many others, she observed a neat hole in the building about 20 feet across. Not the sort of impact damage one would expect a fully loaded 757 or 767 airliner to make. Then there was the distinct lack of large-scale debris and carnage outside the building. Her inescapable conclusion, along with many others, was that a missile had impacted The Pentagon.

    Other contributors then go on to deal with the possibility of a deliberate staging of an apparent terrorist attack in order to justify the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Who would have the motive to carry out such an operation and who would benefit the most from the military expansion that followed?

    There are many other facets of the case dealt with in this book, too detailed to cover in any review - the reader simply has to weigh it all up and make up his or her own mind as to what explanations could have been true or false.

    One thing can be said for sure - the case of the 9/11 attacks continues to be an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery. Some of the conclusions in this book are frightening, even unbelievable, but they are inescapable.

    In the words of Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury: "The book's call for a truly independent panel of experts to be empowered to bring out the true facts must be heeded, or Americans will never again live under accountable government".

    ...the weight of evidence that 9/11 was an inside job to advance a hegemonic agenda is overwhelming when looked at closely, whilst the evidence presented to support the official story is almost non-existent and consists mainly of assertions made by the very people who are the prime suspects in what may be the biggest crime of all time. Witness, for instance, the total failure of the US Government to present any actual evidence that Osama Bin Laden was behind the attacks - even to the extent that on the FBI's website 9/11 is not listed among the crimes for which OBL is wanted, coupled with the fact that the head of the FBI said recently that this was because there was no real evidence to connect him to the crimes. British PM Tony Bliar promised the British people that he had irrefutable evidence that Bin Laden WAS the culprit and he would present it in due course. It is now days only before Bliar (spelling intentional) steps down as PM of Great Britain (June 2007), and the world and the British people are STILL waiting for this evidence to be presented.

    This is another landmark presentation of evidence which supports the notion that the American Empire, far from being benign, is malevolent in the extreme. A pertinent question that needs to be asked is: "will Americans wake up before it is too late?" The answer to that may well be "it is already too late".
