Global Shift: How A New Worldview Is Transforming Humanity (New Harbinger/Noetic Books) (co-published with the Institute of Noetic Sciences) Paperback – January 2, 2009
Purchase options and add-ons
A remarkable change is taking place that will profoundly influence the way we see ourselves and our world. The dominant materialistic, separatist worldview-a perspective that leads individuals to value their own needs over the good of the whole-is giving way to a humanitarian-spiritual orientation. This shift will revolutionize both the way humanity interacts on a global scale and how we live on a day-to-day basis.
Global Shift, co-published with the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), explores the roots of such current planetary crises as climate change, diminishing resources, poverty, and disease, and explains how a new convergence of scientific research and spiritual insight is propelling us toward a more enlightened future. It also presents a call to actions we can implement now, such as voluntary simplicity, nonviolent communication, caring for our bodies, and inclusive global thinking, that can foster personal healing and bring our lives into alignment with the needs of the planet and a conscious universe.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2009This is a well written and thoroughly researched book that the author obviously went into great lengths in order to present a full picture. The book goes to great lengths to discuss very vital issues pertaining to our lives and our planet. The first 200 plus pages takes us through a very detailed description of where we are as people and the way we need to go in order to sustain our ever depleted planet.
Some of the topics discussed are moving forward with the big challenges we face as humans and our planet. Understanding the universe, the integration of science and religion/spirituality, recognizing the unity of consciousness-that our minds are joined in one, and much more.
The last 130 pages go into actual ways we can progress forward in order to achieve the "global shift" discussed in the book. A few examples include Voluntary simplicity- taking a simpler path in life in order to "lighten our footprints on earth". The concept of unconditional love and forgiveness as the highest values in our relations with each other, letting go of clutter, living closer to nature, learning peaceful communications based on empathy, acceptance of differences the ability to compromise, ect.
After reading this book, I have to say it has helped me to understand the many of the important aspects of life that most of us do not think much about, it provides some of the steps that one can take in order to have a more meaningful, peaceful and manageable life regardless of ones situation, and thus I very much recommending reading this book, and sharing it with friends and family.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2014For those new to the subject this book is nicely comprehensive. For those working in the field, a little simplistic. However this book would make a good "text book" for a class or seminar to introduce folks new to the subject.
The last section on practical applications is helpful for all. Good work Mr, Bourne
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2010Global Shift is an important book that should be read by everyone. It explains in detail the complex changes that civilization is in the midst of going through. It clearly details the many issues that currently confront society and the difficulties that those who refuse to recognize them are experiencing. Author Edmund Bourne, who is a researcher at The Institute of Noetic Sciences, thoroughly explores the changes that are occurring and must occur for us to successfully navigate the stormy seas of paradigm shift and consciousness change. According to Bourne we are at a critical crossroads in the development of civilization and unless we are able to surmount the many complex problems that now confront us with a new vision and consciousness our future is in doubt. He details the phenomenal discoveries and research that are occurring in the realms of mind and consciousness and how these are capable of lifting us out of the current quagmires of environmental destruction and political decay. This book presents some very workable guidelines that describe the changes that are occurring and the way these changes may quite well lead us to a future of prosperity and harmony. An evolution in our species is necessary for us to continue on in a successful manner and this evolution is one of mind and consciousness. This book will help guide anyone concerned for the future. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2012The Institute of Noetic Sciences has put forth a great book outlining the current consciousness shift that humanity is experiencing that has tell-tale signs all over the world and especially became apparent in 2011 with the Arab Spring, the Occupy movement, and socio-political protests and revolutions worldwide. There is an emergence of a new humanity that is more tolerant of the differences between us all and respecting of them. The most important realization that humanity is having that is helping create this paradigm shift is the realization of the interconnectedness of humanity, which in return helps promote the ideals of harmony and compassion between humans and each other. Edmund Bourne has outlined what the signs are to show that a global shift is happening as well as the possible outcome of such a wide-reaching social transformation and I have used this book as a reference to demonstrations of my own of the current global consciousness shift in The Creation of a Consciousness Shift.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2010I suffered through the first few chapters of this book then put it down. I thought I'd bought a book about Noetics. Instead I found the author espouses such ideologies as "action on climate change". In December 2009, anthropogenic global warming was proven to be a hoax, the goal of which was to extort money from developed countries. Granted, the book was written before "Climategate" but a small amount of research would have provided the author with some obviously much-needed insight into climate change and the remedies, though few, that Humankind can apply to it. Instead of focussing on the science behind Noetics, this book addresses the state of Humankind today and how we in developed countries are responsible for its transformation. It discusses the fact that "everything is one" and should expand and get more complex from there. Disappointingly, it doesn't, instead advising the reader on ways to live his/her life: recycle, downsize, get rid of clutter, have a job you enjoy, chew your food, drink lots of water, meditate, etc.
If want to feel warm and fuzzy, read this book. But if you're like me and don't have time for Al Gore's or David Suzuki's self-serving ideologies, then DON'T READ THIS BOOK. If you want a good introduction into Noetics, a better choice is "Entangled Minds" by Dean Radin.
