As a person of faith, the reductionist science popular today has (to me anyway) logical flaws and inconsistencies. Some of the theories just don't make sense (such as the many worlds theory). Was I being blinded or biased because of my faith? Or was I just not smart enough?Seeing a respected scientist challenge some of these theories is reassuring that it wasn't any dullness on my part.
This book was a very informative and stimulating read. It hasn't changed my core beliefs, but it has filled many voids in my knowledge and given me more tools with which to understand the world. Better yet, I have a completely new understanding of some concepts that were already familiar. And yes, there are things I thought I knew before that I am less sure of now, because while the book hasn't shown me what it is (consciousness), it has clearly shown me what it is not.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of their belief system or lack thereof. I really appreciate that it wasn't exceptionally long, had no complex formulae that would make it difficult to understand, and explains very complex theories in layman's terms.
Well done, Dr Haisch. Well done.

Bernard Haish engages the most profound and absolute subject of them all: God - and its relation to the Universe and beyond it, beyond space, time and material reality - with a remarkable ability to reach its readers.
While his book constanlty referes to high-point physics concepts, such as the Zero-Point field and M-Brane theories, it -never- goes haywire in complexity. It explains with crystal clear arguments why and how science, rather than disproving the existence of God and demonstrating religious beleifs as superstitions, actually indicates that material reality is not "everything there is"; and not only with theories and suppositions, but with actual and demonstratable arguments.
As Haish points out, God, is "eveything" - from the entire Universe(s) as a whole to each single microscopic energy wave in it and through it, going beyond space, time and even conceivable reality. And not only is it "eveything", but it is a "sentient everything" from which we are all part.
A fascinating explaination that reads without efforts.
The only thing you need to grasp this book are basic logic skills, a high school grade science class background, an open and curious mind and an interest in trying to find out where "the big picture" is, at the confines of the farthest reaches of science, where it meets the true essence of spirituality - and where they converge into one.
Most probably, after reading this book, you will have a new metaphysical insight, that will in no way disprove your previous beleifs, but will have you view them in a whole different and much, much greater perspective.
Quite literally, it explains eveything!
The motivation of mankind being the pursuit of happiness...which is lately becoming not the right to pursuit of happiness but the right to happiness itself. The endgame being elimination of death (except perhaps by being squashed by a boulder while visiting Falling Rocks, Colorado...or some such accident). The development of computer intelligence will reach a point where many things change for us, not all for our good. What if Artificial Intelligence takes over and suspends us all by our feet, feeding us through tubes and letting us live in a dream state in various forms of virtual reality until the AI determines it really doesn't need us anymore. That was "Sapiens"
Homo Deus is more of a religious-type text focusing on how homo sapiens developed. Theologies are examined and discounted as being secular constructs that are essentially imagination gone wild. Harari attacks the notion of individuality and our concept of our conscious self. To make a long story short, Harari expresses his strongly held belief that there is no real individuality or conscious self...but that we are essentially semi-sentient creatures with an uncanny ability to organize and communicate....and that all our actions are really based on chemical actions and reactions at the molecular or even chromosomal level based on algorithms of physics and chemistry. I don't think he tithes. He believes all religions are merely social constructs. His books are enthralling and very convincing...and ultimately very depressing.
I felt I needed a catharsis. I felt Harari, as convincing as he was, just missed hitting the truth of the matter. I remembered another author, a noted astrophysicist and physicist, named Bernard Haisch, had written a book titled "God Theory: Universes, Zero-Point Fields, and What's Behind It..." I read the book which provides a scientific look at and analysis of who and what God is. The book is fresh and informative and is a direct counterpoint to the arguments of reductionists such as Harari. It gives meaning to the statement in Genesis that God created Light before there was anything to see or reflect that light. It also gives meaning to the statement in John 1:1..."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God".
I recommend Harari's books for a page-turning trip through history and a voyage to a dim and not too distant future. I also recommend you read Haisch' book "God Theory..." Read Haisch immediately after you read Harari.
Peace.
