"If I had to choose one global warming skeptic to go mano-a-mano against the best of the alarmists in a winner-take-all, rumble-in-the-jungle debate to the death to settle the climate controversy once and for all, my pick would be Chris Horner. Red Hot Lies shows why. Horner's astonishing depth and breadth of knowledge is crisply and cleverly articulated and packs amazing punch. It's no wonder the alarmists fear him."
--Steven Milloy, publisher, JunkScience.com
Praise for Christopher C. Horner and his New York Times bestseller, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism
"Finally, someone has written a definitive resource to debunk global warming alarmism."
--Senator James Inhofe (R.-Okla.), former chairman of the Environment & Public Works Committee
"Chris Horner has been a staunch champion for common sense in the face of mounting media hysteria about the climate."
--Roger Helmer, member of European Parliament

- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2009I totally agree with Professor Michael's review above of Red Hot Lies. Chris Horner has done a great job of bringing the whole package of the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) mendacity together in one place.
Teachers who have helped indoctrinate our children with Gore's film, should read this book and then do a mea culpa to their charges and their parents and set the record straight.
Politicians who are now voting on climate bills or assenting to the EPA's plan to regulate CO2 should read Horner's book to understand the broad assault on truth that is being deployed by shysters of all stripes and climate laboratories looking for grants; if they still support the man-made global warming lie, one has to assume they are themselves feeding at the taxpayer-financed AGW trough and are personally in on this giant fleecing of America. No honest politician who has read this book could possibly vote for the AGW lie.
Horner has done a great job showing the inter-relationships between all the fleecers. An interesting follow on would be development of an in-depth multi-layered database showing the monetary flows between the taxpayers, the big institutions, the many government agencies, the UN, the climate laboratories (US and foreign) and corporations such as Walmart, British Petroleum, Duke Power, General Electric, and a host of "green" (green as in your money) power companies that are out for the buck.
The American economy and culture will be set back to the days of the cotton gin, according to Steven Hayward if the 80 by 50 plan for CO2 reduction becomes law - see "The Real Cost of Tackling Climate Change" - Wall Street Journal, 4.28.08:
[...]
Many politicians, and in my judgment including this president and his staff and cabinet, care nothing about the truth of AGW but rather the avenue it provides to force state socialism on the American people, tear down the basis of the American economy, and help solidify a program of class warfare, silencing or liquidating the opposition and ending eventually in a socialist utopia. It has already been used as an excuse to nearly demolish the American auto industry, and the president has promised in his campaign that it will be used to wipe out the electric power industry's 100-year tradition of inexpensive reliable electric power, which has been the nation's economic engine since the day of Thomas Edison. If you have ever spent time in third world countries with limited electric power you might understand why their main product is poverty for their people, and that is the result that the socialist politicians seek for America - break a few eggs as they put it, to reach the socialist nirvana.
What is at stake here is the future of America. Every American needs to read and understand Red Hot Lies and act on it by flooding the politicians with letters and phone calls to stop supporting the AGW mendacity.
Who should read this book, cover to cover:
1. The President of Walmart, who distributed thousands of free copies of the Gore propaganda video to the nation's K12 schools. He should counter this propaganda with distributing this book to all schools that got the free Gore mendacity.
2. Every K12 teacher that spread the Gore propaganda to her/his students.
3. Every U.S Senator, especially those who have bought the Gore lie.
4. Every U.S. Congressional Representative.
5. Every new candidate for election in 2010, especially if the incumbent is wed to the man-made CO2 hoax.
6. Every State Governor
7. Every Member of a State Legislature
8. Every Federal and State Agency director that has scarce bucks budgeted for greenhouse gas emission control.
9. Every county tax collector who cannot conceive of the taxpayer goose having no more golden eggs to lay after their jobs have been sacrificed to the carbon gods.
10. Every student bent on a science career, be aware that a career in climate this or that may look monetarily attractive today, but it is doomed to go the way of the gas lamp when the thin-air foundation of the AGW lies becomes common knowledge.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2008The author of this book and I have two things in common (at least): We are lawyers and we truly care about the First Amendment rights of Americans. Anyone who shares affection for the First Amendment should read this book. It contains a lot of well documented rebuttal to the more extreme global warming fear mongering, and what it says about how our kids are turned against us with global warming propaganda is enough to scare anyone, but the truly frightening part of the book is about the systematic suppression of scientific debate and serious dissenting voices.
Whether you are on the side of Al Gore or totally against what he says, you should be frightened by any movement that thinks we should spend a few trillion dollars of taxpayer funds based on proffered science which no one is allowed to disagree with.
The nice thing about the book is that the author has a sense of humor and writes the story with a light and ironic hand, not in diatribe style. And don't forget to read the footnotes. Not only do they support what he says with detailed cites, but they give you a plethora of fascinating web sites where you can follow up and see for yourself.
This is truly a thinking person's book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2009Scary.
The depths that the alarmists will go through to silence opposition to their claims is absolutely terrifying. Horton goes into great detail and provides so many examples that I found myself skipping ahead just to stop the brow beating. The ostracizing of "skeptic" academics gave me chills. Examples include
Extreme pressure from teachers on other teachers
Failure to publish substantial AGW debunking works in numerous peer review journals
Attempts by alarmists to retract direct quotes after learning they were used to further the "skeptic" agenda (seriously, someone threatened to sue a publisher if his direct quote while being interviewed by the author was not removed from a book because it was factual account of how CO2 is released from the ocean after it is heated up)
Extreme pressure from the Green Machine to replace any dissenting voice in positions ranging from state climatologists to the Natural Academy of Science all over the world.
Countless claims by the greens of a consensus that doesn't exist and a failure to acknowledge the actual scientific communities consensus that greatly downplays man's contribution to global warming
Sensationalism and admitted over-exaggeration of affects of AGW to get their point across.
I could continue but I think you see the trend. Science and debate is being stifled by an extreme attempt to gain more governmental control and redistribute wealth from the "poor of the rich nations to the rich of the poor nations". Claims by anyone skeptical of Gore and his cronies are immediately accused of being funded by oil and big business and being a "climate terrorist" while the alarmists draw millions from agencies that will greatly benefit from global warming (nuclear power, the government, natural gas, etc). Amazingly, it has been suggested that people who speak out against global warming should be imprisoned on the grounds that they are destroying the environment and endangering everyone's lives! Some alarmists are even against Christmas and write extremely pathetic childrens stories of santa's roof leaking due to the melting of the ice at the north pole! ABSURD!
The book was at times repetitive and poorly worded (long sentences separated by colons or commas with paranthesised interspersed that made me have to re-read some paragraphs several times to understand what he was trying to say). Overall though it was very well researched and his examples are well cited and very specific requiring little imagination or thought as to what the other side's motives were.
The green rhetoric should scare you. Debate and democracy are slowly being stifled in favor of totalitarian government. Today the US House approved a bill (going to the senate next) that is being called the largest tax in American history all under the disguise of "saving the planet". I encourage people to learn the facts of AGW and not watch erroneous and ostentatious documentaries from Al Gore.

FranciscaReviewed in France on July 29, 20103.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed
I bought this book not because I needed to make up my mind about whether global warming is man made or not but in order to know the scams they are up to! I am not a scientist at all but looking at this money making machine there was never a chance I would have believed in it. The title of this book convinced me to buy it and... to be honest... despite the all the information contained in it I am disappointed. Why? For the simple reason that I don't believe that it is well written, at times it is even boring. The author seems to have put his thoughts down on paper and not have looked at the contents again. The only chapter I really enjoyed reading was the one about the indoctrination of children, funny enough that one is well written (in my humble opinion....) and scary!
I struggled to decide whether I would give this book 3 or 4 stars but in the end I decided that 3 starts were enough and I am going to look for other books on the subject. But again..... I learned a lot of facts I had no idea about although I always knew these people were up to no good. I just wish the author had had a ghost writer to help him put the house in order. If you are only after the facts then I would think that it is worth reading, if you want a book you also enjoy reading..... I don't think so!
One piece of advice I would like to leave here: why don't writers have a list at the end of the books where they write the abbreviations in full? There are so many and after a while when they mention one again if you are not familiar with them you tend not to remember what they are talking about.
Mr. K. BrosterReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 6, 20095.0 out of 5 stars red hot lies
It is probable that I enjoyed this book so much because it served to confirm my own misgivings about much of what we are being told regarding the effect of man`s behaviour on the fluctuation in the earth`s temperature.
However, aside from that I found the book to be well writen and informative.

Duncan MackenzieReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 3, 20164.0 out of 5 stars Worth your time
It takes a while to get to detailed descriptions of propaganda techniques, and the author assumes that if you are reading it you must already be 'on-side'. However, once it hits its stride it becomes more convincing. It has, in places, that particular habit (I find it often in American political writing) of stating something but not backing it up with proof - which is irritating - but it is a good read, engaging (particularly if you are on a long train journey - and I was), and may leave me outraged towards the 'Global Warming Alarmists' - as they are called here. Certainly, you'll be more careful over what to believe in the press.
