The War Conspiracy: JFK, 9/11, and the Deep Politics of War Paperback – September 3, 2013
Purchase options and add-ons
An important analysis into the causes of war and the long-lasting effects that major events in American history can have on foreign and military policies, The War Conspiracy is a must-read book for students of American history and foreign policy, and anyone interested in the ways that domestic tragedies can be used to manipulate the country’s direction.
First published in 1972, this edition of The War Conspiracy is fully updated for the twenty-first century and includes two lengthy additional essays, one on the transition in Vietnam policy in the wake of the Kennedy assassination, and the other discussing the many parallels between that 1963 event and the attacks of 9/11.

“Peter Dale Scott is one of that tiny and select company of the most brilliantly creative and provocative political-historical writers of the last half century.” (Roger Morris, author and former National Security Council staffer)
“Scott exposes an element in the American system of global power that poses an increasing threat to the victims of this system, the American people among them.” (Noam Chomsky)

- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2011The title of the book suggests that it might have been written by Jesse Ventura, but it is actually a very detailed and meticulously foot-noted analysis of how the Military-Industrial complex operates.
Peter Dale Scott is a first-rate thinker but a second-rate writer. As fascinating as the subject is, as penetrating as his analysis is...I found the book a bit of a snooze.
A better book for a casual reader/concerned citizen interested in the topic might be "JFK: Why He Died and Why It Matters" but for the hard-core scholar, this book is a must-read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2014A must read for those who are in search of the truth about how things work in our country.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2023This is mostly a book about South East Asia around the 50/60's. Not really much about JFK. It was mostly written in 1972. I was disappointed.

2e 2008, 2013 reprint. It covers SE Asia in 1950-70. The updates are in italics.
This is about the motivation and planning for the Wars in Laos (1959-62), Vietnam (from 1954) and Cambodia. Other books may only discuss the military tactics. This can be traced back to the defeated Chinese government (KMT) supported by the USA who went into part of Burma and set up an opium industry to fund the guerrilla attacks on the PRC aided by the logistics capabilities of the CIA built out of the 14th Air Force now privatized in Tiawan. The Oil interest was in exploration drilling offshore to Cambodia and South Vietnam. In 1964 special forces and USS Maddox attempted to prevoke North Vietnam (DRV) but the response was faked to force the US Congress to sign a resolution for Pres. Johnson to invade S. Vietnam.
Ch.1 covers the history of the CIA's Air America based in Taiwan which contradicted Truman's policy. The military and Wall Street's policy was a rolling back of communism ultimately invading the PRC across the southern border. In 1951 there was a failed invasion of Yunnan province. The CIA also supported insurgencies in Indonesia, Burma and Tibet after 1954.
This chapter and the introduction is reproduced in Drugs, Oil and War (2003).
Ch.2 Laos 1960-70
In 1961 Pepsi Cola was discovered making the chief precursor of Heroin in S. Vietnam.
Reproduced in Drugs, Oil and War.
Ch.3 Tonkin Gulf Hoax 1964
Ch..4 Provocations 1966-8
Bombing of neutral ships in N. Vietnam (DRV).
Ch.5 USS Pueblo (1968) provocation against DPRK (N. Korea).
Ch.6 Cambodian Oil 1970.
Reproduced in Drugs, Oil, and War.
Ch.7 Laos 1971. provided one-third of world Heroin production.
Ch.8 Opium and CIA.

Afterword, JFK vs. LBJ.
JFK wanted to leave Vietnam and LBJ wanted to overthrow the S. Vietnam government by assassination and defeat the NLF opposition using the MACV as the occupation force.
Kennedy assassination (1963) to continue the Vietnam war, the Cold War and covert military operations world-wide.
Second Afterword. US Deep Events.
Ali Mohamed was a CIA agent who planned the al-Qaeda attacks on the US embassies in Africa.
