3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

What politicians and the media don't want you to know.

Millions of Americans at both ends of the political spectrum are angry and fed up with being lied to by politicians and the media. The emergence of “outsider” presidential candidates Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders is proof that people are sick and tired of Washington’s culture of deception.

Thumbing his nose at political correctness, negotiation expert and political commentator Ed Brodow exposes the outrageous lies that have been disseminated about the most important issues of our time. He tells the uncensored truth about the threat of Islamic extremism, global warming, the welfare entitlement system, Obamacare, racial tension and other important things that our elected representatives don’t want you to know. If you vote in national elections, the candor of
In Lies We Trust will help you make decisions based on facts instead of misinformation.

I just found a copy of Ed Brodow’s fascinating book, In Lies We Trust. The author does a fabulous job of exposing the litany of lies put out there every day by Democrats and the Left. He takes on all the canards of the leftist playbook and tears them to shreds. Brodow deserves a medal for his in-depth analysis of the climate hoax, Islamic terrorism, the welfare state, and the crazy happenings on our college campuses. His overview of the climate issue is the most penetrating, honest and complete that I’ve seen anywhere. He obviously did his homework. I had to laugh when I saw the angry reviews that surely were written by left-wingers who cannot tolerate their religious dogma being challenged. Instead of citing contrary arguments, the criticisms are mostly quibbling and ad hominem attacks on the author. According to these deluded people, if you tell the truth about the climate hoax and it contradicts the leftist playbook, that makes you a racist. I suspect that Mr. Brodow is sitting in his study with a big grin on his face knowing that he has succeeded in pushing the buttons of a couple of hardcore liberals. If you are the kind of person who believes that calling global warming a hoax makes you a racist, don’t read this book. But if you are fed up with the lies coming from Washington and have a sincere interest in getting your information from a source other than CNN or MSNBC, then In Lies We Trust should be on your must-read list.

Very interesting read, a must read. It opens ones eyes to the level of corruption in our government and how the media spins things to fit their adjenda. The polititians /media have tapped into a power of major proportions in the apothetic public and ran with it. This read lets you into a world of deception both by the media and polititians and how they tell people what they want to hear all the while lining their pockets and creating a major devide, US & THEM that's it. Read it, believe it or not. Just let the corruption continue.

It sounded like an interesting read, but was very disappointing. For someone who advocates critical thinking, I am wondering if Mr. Brodow wrote this book as a test to see if we would critically evaluate his writing? Because otherwise I have no explanation for why this book is so poorly written. For one, he does not have a reference page. If his sources about how global warming (GW) is a hoax are rock-solid and conclusive, then why is there no reference page? I have no way of looking up his sources to verify his info myself. Second, what qualifications does Mr. Brodow have to even be evaluating the quality of the science behind GW. He's not a scientist. He has a B.A. in political science. That's it. Third, his book is rife with contradictions and cherry-picked evidence. Examples: On page 11 Mr. Brodow cites a New York Times (NYT) article (about how often politicians lie) to support his point. However, at the end of his book, he has a list of other books he recommends for further reading, one of which is titled 'Journalistic Fraud: How The New York Times Distorts The News and Why It Can No Longer Be Trusted.' So Mr. Brodow is both using the NYT to support his argument, but also rejecting it as a valid source of information (except apparently when that information supports his argument). This is a great example of cherry picking! Also on page 11, his NYT example lists 9 politicians (6 Republicans, 3 Democrats) and rates them with a percentage of statements that were mostly false or worse. He then says, 'Forgive my cynicism, but you will notice that the uber-liberal Times conveniently put the Republicans at the top of the list and the Democrats at the bottom.' Mr. Brodow somehow, amazingly, failed to notice that the list simply goes from highest percentage to lowest percentage. The 6 Republicans all had higher percentages of mostly false or worse statements than the 3 Democrats. Mr. Brodow has failed to notice something called 'numerical order.' This stunned me.

Then, on page 181, in his chapter titled, 'The Global Warming Hoax,' he says, 'IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] is not a panel of scientists. It is a UN body composed of the representatives of member nations. From the beginning, the issue was politicized. National environmental policies were introduced based on IPCC findings that were never proven beyond a doubt.' So he is saying the IPCC is unreliable and the science has not been proven conclusively. But then, he uses the IPCC to support his argument against Al Gore on the very next page! He says, 'Gore tells the audience that, due to global warming, melting ice could release enough water to cause a 20-foot rise in sea level "in the near future." The IPCC has refuted that prediction, estimating that sea levels will rise 0.59 to 2.0 feet over the next 100 years.' So again, Mr. Brodow, which is it? Is the IPCC only unreliable when their evidence does not support your claims? This is another great example of cherry picking your evidence.

I could go on and on with other examples from his book, but I think the point has been made. This book is not just poorly referenced; it is not referenced at all. His ‘evidence’ is cherry-picked and contradictory. To me it seems like a book written haphazardly with intent only to sell copies and make money, not to seriously investigate, research or conclusively prove his points (which was what I thought I was getting with this book).

I was honestly hoping for an unbiased view on this subject. An assault on all media and both parties...but it skews to the right in the first few pages, which is fine, i still read it, but you can clearly tell of the author's political leanings very quickly.

While convincing in his presentation, the chapter on global warming is flat out full of misleading information...and almost sounds as if he was paid by an energy company to write it. Some of his statistics have been debunked or are proven to have been misleading.

A good example is his reference to the 31,000 scientists that think global warming is a hoax. What he leaves out is that of those 31,000 scientists, only a small percentage claimed to be climate, atmospheric, or environmental scientists, and furthermore, there was no verification if any of these people actually were scientists at all, they self reported.

What he also leaves out is that one of the scientists he references repeatedly in debunking the hoax of climate change, has outright refused to say where is funding comes from (presumably from some arm of the OGC industry).

All in all, the book itself is a representation about how we are all lied to or misled into a school of ideological thought. The author's goal is to create more critical thinkers, which this book will accomplish, if you are ready to question what he is writing instead of taking his word for it.

This is an exciting book that will open your eyes about the multitude of lies emanating from our elected representatives and supported by the media. From Islamic terrorism to global warming to political correctness, the author shocked me with the truth that Washington doesn't want us to know. I'm glad I read this before the election.

Great information about how discussing politics, one side of the political mindset never supports their argument with facts.
