He's back on the rigs and back in trouble. Picking up right where he left off, Paul Carter pulls out more tall tales of a mad, bad, and dangerous life in the international oil trade. Starting with action and mayhem galore
This Is Not A Drill sets an unrelenting pace that just doesn't let up, as Paul almost drowns when the Russian rig he's working on begins to capsize; is reunited with his Dad—another adrenaline junkie; gets married; hangs out with his rig pig buddies in exotic locations; gets hammered on vodka in Sakhalin; and spends a couple of interesting weeks in Afghanistan with some mates who run an outfit that just happens to contract out mercenaries for hire. This is the next fast, furious, and very funny book from Paul Carter.

Once you start reading you can't put it down. Being an oil & gas contractor I can relate somewhat to the stories which makes it that much funnier. Nicely written... Can't get enough.

I LIVED "Don't tell mum I work the rigs". With an MSc in Geology in the late 70s, I basically spent about 10 % of my 22-32 y.o. period on Rigs. Indonesia, North Sea, Offshore GOM. As the Oil Company geologist, a priveledged slot 1 above Paul's below only that of Company Man (aka Drilling Superintendant). It was great. I've been in trailors in the jungle's of North Sumatra, and Disco's on rigs in the North Sea full of young female stewardesses. (Paul missed that). Never got shot at in Nigeria! I was really looking for an encore of the first book and instead, Paul's goes a lot into talking about his father's air force experiences. All I can say is.... I bought 20 copies of his first book (giveaways to freinds, family, younger employees) but only one of this. Still, if you havn't bought it and got this far into Pauli's story -- buy 1.

I loved Paul carter's books, they are a typical mad Aussie oil workers look on life. Iloved this book i laughed at the wild way the lived and worked, always chasing "black gold". The way Paul writes you cannot help the feeling he is talking to you directly.
Paul talks about some of the wild guys he has worked with and worked for.
In all a great insite of the oil business.
Also if you like this book read Pauls other two books on kindle.
one for the men to read and enjoy

Bought used off Amazon and it was still like new. The book itself is very funny and feels like you are sitting in a pub with "that guy" on your crew listening to him tell funny stories. Definitely lots of laughs.

Great book, love the author’s sense of humour and writing style although he did have a little help from some other editors but who doesn't. Read all of his books now and past them on to my family who all also loved it.

Paul has another book out on this topic and it is a really good book. This one is okay at best. It didn't keep me engaged and I never did end up finishing it. I would recommend buying his other book but not this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening stories from the oilfields !
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 16, 2013
Paul Carter's experiences on oil rigs really make me question why we take oil production for granted ! I think we need to be thinking again about milling the ground beneath us for oil ! However the characters he describes are larger than life and quite remarkable. He injects humour into his stories but there is also the sadness of experience in his every day experiences. I think we should all read this book because it goes beyond just describing the life of an oil man. I gave it 4 stars because it can get a bit long winded when he is recounting other people's experiences.
