In Business Stripped Bare, Sir Richard Branson shares the inside track on his life in business and reveals the incredible truth about his most risky, brilliant and audacious deals. Discover why Virgin tried to take on one of the world's biggest superbrands, how Virgin Mobile USA holds the record as the fastest company in history to generate revenues of over one billion dollars (faster than Microsoft, Google and Amazon) and how Richard is the only person in the world to have built eight billion-dollar companies from scratch in eight different sectors.
Combining invaluable advice with the remarkable and candid inside stories of Virgin's greatest achievements, as well as some of its setbacks, Business Stripped Bare is a dynamic, inspirational and truly original guide to success in business and in life. - Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2010I read Richard Branson's "Losing My Virginity" and was instantly consumed by the stories, both personal and business, of how he got where was in the early 2000's. I mean how many Billionaire's can you think of that are open and honest enough to tell some their most personal situations to allow us to gain a better understanding of who they really are? One that I know of now. Richard keeps that same tone and openness in "Business Striped Bare" and explains the foundation behind what makes Virgin as successful as it is, in a non-business jargon and easy to understand way. He is not giving the magic bullet that will work for everyone in every situation, but what he is giving is an inside look at how Virgin does what it does and how it does it so well. Well worth the read and the concepts are easily applied in just about any area of life, not just business.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2015Outstanding. Such a wonderful collection of ideas, antitodes, lessons and big thoughts. Absolutely wonderful to know that I/we get to share the planet with a person like this. I would hope you would find relatable information on just about every page. To be honest, as good as the first 323 pages are the four pages of the Epilogue may be the most powerful.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2009I have read a few of his books and those unofficial biographies. This takes a different approach. Though I've only read the first 2 chapters. The information in those chapters is reinforcing what entrepreneurial textbooks site. Except this doesn't do it in cookie cutter method. Its worth a read I find that this book is something to look forward to when I sit down to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2012I think the best way to sum up this book is "He gets it." One would think that a well-known business tycoon like Sir Richard Branson would not have a clue about how a small mom and pop venture works. The writing in this book indicates that he does get it.
This book tells us some of the challenges that Branson has run into while being in almost every business imaginable. Branson's Virgin Cola went up against Coca Cola and The Coca Cola Company fought him every step of the way. And that, sadly to say, is why most of us rednecks have never tasted a Virgin Cola. I really wish Virgin Cola had succeeded. If it had, maybe the mom and pop stores that made Coca Cola what it is today would not be bullied by Coke the way they are. Richard gets it.
Richard talks about reviewing different business plans for possible investment. Sometimes he goes against the advice of the M.B.A.s and invests anyway. A business plan, with all its supporting data, is really just an educated guess. If the fundamentals are there, the business has a chance to succeed. If they aren't there, sometimes the business will succeed anyway. I just wish Richard would invest in my business plan like he did many others he told us about in the book.
The bottom line here is that Richard gives us some of the business education you can't get at Harvard or anywhere else other than down in the trenches in the real world because Richard gets it.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2012I wouldn't expect a lot of business books to make me laugh, and laugh quite often, but Business Stipped Bare is such a book. There are so many people talking about the success of Richard Branson, but you want to learn from him inside out, don't you? So reading his own book talking about his businesses and success makes so much more sense than reading anybody else's take or analysis on his sucess.
It might surprise you what his success, according to HIM, is due to. One of the things that impressed me was that he said, "my driving force was on purblishing magazine, not even music... is finding new ways to give people a good time." Don't you love it?
I went through an entrepreneur course while setting up my hypnotherapy practice. During the course we had to define our demographic targe market. And I always had difficulty with it - how about all the rich people at all ages both genders with all sorts of problems? So it resonates with me when Branson says in his book that "Virgin is a brand appealing not to any particular demographic, but to an attitude of mind."
He made a whole chapter talking about his mistakes and setbacks. I truly think his success is due to his healthy image about himself. He could talk about his mistakes without feeling any depletion of ego. He says, "It's embarrassing to admit this stuff, and I think it's a fear of embarrassment that discourages many chairman and bosses from doing their jobs properly." Admitting this stuff he's not judging himself. And when we judge ourselves, we stop wherever we are going. We let fear stop us.
Business books might be dry and astract, but not Branson's. He has a lot of stories to tell, and he tells them well. You feel he's no difference from anyone of us.
Now let's stop talking about business. Let's go do business. Inside our own mind we are all stripped bare. Let's keep looking forward - what more fun we can have next.
