Purchase options and add-ons
If you know Phil Hellmuth then you either love him or hate him!
His rants, tirades, and lines like “I can dodge bullets baby” and “If it weren't for luck, I'd win them all” are epic and have earned him the nickname the “Poker Brat.” However, whether you love him or hate him, he is undoubtedly the greatest poker player of our time. Phil is a global poker icon who holds every record at the World Series of Poker, including an extraordinary 14 world championships.
In Poker Brat Phil paints a picture of his early Midwestern life, in which he struggled mightily in grade school and high school, but always had aspirations to do something great. Phil takes you from the low lows of his life to the high highs, and shows you how he developed an unhealthy ego along the way, which eventually turned into his “poker brat” persona.
In Poker Brat, Phil shares his own powerful tips and techniques, the ones that he used to set his goals, and then he shows how he achieved those goals as he climbed to the summit of the poker world.- Print length368 pages

Review
My husband Dave Goldberg admired Phil so much as a poker player and as a friend and his book shows why. It is both entertaining and inspiring, and is a great read for anyone who wants to learn about the thrill and experience of becoming the best in the game. It offers lessons not only for aspiring players but for fathers as well. (Sheryl Sandberg Facebook COO and Founder of Lean In and Option B)
I coach champions, and Phil Hellmuth is the biggest champion in poker with 14 world titles. I love his inspirational story, and I admire the grit and determination it took to hit the top, and stay there. (Tony Robbins Self-help guru and bestselling author)

I am known as a volatile professional poker player w the nickname "Poker Brat." My occasional tantrums at the poker tables--always shown on ESPN, it seems--are entertaining and detract and obfuscate who I really am. I'm a fourteen time World Champion of Poker (number one by far in wins), who wrote a NY Times Bestseller ("Play Poker like the Pros"), a family guy (married 29 years), who loves to laugh (and often does), w a balanced lifestyle. I do LIVE commentary for ESPN covering the World Series of Poker, and I have my own segment (the "Raw Deal") on the World Poker Tour. Once I understood that I inspired tens of millions of people by making moves and folds they couldn't make, I decided to that "Inspiration" would be a mission for me. My autobiography o"Poker Brat,"is inspirational and my next book "#POSITIVITY" teaches 8 important life tips and explains why you are always in the right place at the right time

With regard to the ego issue, I have a different take than most, including Phil himself. Personally, I think Phil is the best tournament player of all time. Maybe 6 or 7 years from now we might be having that conversation about Daniel or 15 years from now, maybe Jason – but right now it’s Phil for sure. And yes Phil recaps his brilliant play without missing a detail but he also doesn’t hesitate to discuss his faults and failures nor does he hesitate to give credit to other players for their great accomplishments. Given these 2 facts, I don’t really see Phil’s horn blowing as an ego thing. I think he is quick to call attention to any great accomplishment and he won’t dial down his account of a fact simply because it involves something he himself did. In any event, many people who know Phil talk about what a nice and honest guy he is (including Daniel in the foreword) and I think that’s true and a lot of his positive side comes out in the stories he tells. If he continues to play hard and play smart, then he truly deserves 10 more bracelets. And his wife deserves a medal.
It's interesting to read about his life outside the poker tables, his objectives in life and how he achieved those goals.
I loved the book and I think it's one of the best poker biographies I have ever read with "One of a Kind" (Stu Ungar) and "Life's a Gamble" (Mike Sexton).
One very important thing I need to point out is the way this book is put together. Very poor editing. If you want an exciting book, do not read the titles of the paragraphs, they spoil what you will be about to read! It's like this, not exact facts so not a spoiler: "WINNING MY THIRD BRACELET — So I sat down at my table at the 2001 WSOP main event, with 123 players left..." And then he starts telling you the story, but you know exactly what's going to happen. I have read at least 20 autobiographies in my life, and this characteristic of the book was driving me crazy the whole time. Nothing exciting happened. He started telling you a story about a hand, that otherwise could have been really exciting, but you know whether he would get a bad beat or got super lucky. I tried not reading the titles, but didn't manage to.
Also, lots of repetitions in the book.
Overall I'm glad I read this book. Good stories and real insights. This could have been a 5-star book.
Keep her in line, Phil. I enjoyed this book and am happy I bought it. But we are not dealing with a profoundly self-aware human being here. Everyone else is always wrong. At one point he is carried in by “‘Roman Slaves’”. A muddled, poorly written, unintentionally hilarious look at a dedicated, successful goofball.
