Joseph P. Farrell was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1957, has a B.A. in Biblical Studies and Philosophy, an M.A. in Historical and Theological Studies, and a Ph.D. in Patristics (NOT physics as one of his publishers keeps insisting on saying in spite of his best efforts to get them to change that!). After a lifelong interest in alternative history, science, and a fascination for ancient texts, Joseph started writing in 2001 on these subjects. He also studied pipe organ from the age of six until beginning college, and composes classical music for friends and family. He also plays the harpsichord.

I am a fan of Farrell's work, and that is no secret. The reason for my consistent appreciation of his work is simple: his work is consistently outstanding and deals with important topics which will radically change the way one views the world.

This book is easily one of his best. While maintaining his usual style of measured delineation and careful argument, he also manages to pack the information in a bit denser form than usual. Since this book contains many overviews of topics rather than in depth investigations of each one, this contributes to the sense of density of the information.

What Farrel has produced here is a prima facie case for a true breakaway civilization existing today on this planet. Drawing on the work of others such as Richard Dolan, Carroll Quigley, Richard Sauder, Paul LaViollette, John Loftus, Charles Higham, and many others, Farrell does indeed build a very strong case for just such a civilization in our midst. As always, his work is cited and referenced heavily, with appropriate caveats and calmly measured analysis behind every page. Some of the documented statements herein will astound you.

The civilization he outlines is deeply rooted in the financial, corporate, military, and intelligence structures of post World War 2 society. While the roots of this civilization go much farther back in time, he concentrates on the more contemporary signs and consequences visible in recent history and today.

The connection between the financial and business community, the Nazis, the oil industry, illegal drug cartels, the intelligence and military communities, and scientific circles is outlined and documented quite clearly and unambiguously. He also penetrates the veil of disinformation, confusion, and outright goofiness of the UFO topic to reveal its place in ongoing psychological warfare operations against the "mundane" world, perpetrated by the operations of this hidden, parasitic civilization.

In doing so, he draws the threads of terrorism, drug cartels, financial centers, Nazis, black projects, and other related areas into a tighter and tighter pattern, building on his earlier works in a very powerful way. This is a fascinating and deeply disturbing world being uncovered, and will radically change the way you see events of today, and indeed of recent history.

As I read this book, I came back over and over again to the fact that many of the ideas, concerns, and even pysops necessary in such a breakaway civilization are explored in the TV series "Stargate: SG-1." I find the parallels and development of ideas such as the use of religion, technology, political intrigue, and "disclosure" as portrayed in that show to be thoughtful and highly relevant. While the world portrayed in that series is a watered-down version of what might actually be going on, the basic ideas are nonetheless worth considering. The mechanics of black ops in a world with so much technology among the population, the political infighting over the power of the technology, the impact of encountering a group with radically higher technology, and other such ideas are all well explored. Whether you consider the actual concept of the Stargate as plausible is irrelevant to the larger themes.

The involvement and blessing of the U.S Air Force in SG-1 is worth some attention as well.

I also find the morality and ethics of the characters far more palatable than those of many TV shows featuring similar black ops themes, such as the older version of "Nikita,""24," and so on.

There might even be a book in the analysis of that show and the breakaway civilization theme...

Anyway, to get back to this book, the world is NOT as we are told, and if you would seek to gnaw your way out of the lab rat cage we are in, this is a good place to sharpen your teeth.

    Highly recommended.

I agree with Jon Norris, who said: "his work is consistently outstanding and deals with important topics which will radically change the way one views the world." I also agree that this is one of Farrell's best books (but that does not decrease the value of his other books at all . . .)

I disagree with Farrell on a few points of opinion (not fact), but I still want to know what HIS opinion is. I consider him to be one of the most THOUGHTFUL researchers out there.

My guess is that Joseph Farrell is missing an important piece or two of the puzzle. But no one is perfect, right? Hey, I don't have ANY pieces of the puzzle.

It is my opinion that if you do not have ALL of Farrell's books, then you are probably missing one very important piece of the puzzle that is called 20th century history. Farrell's work probably is not the whole picture, but my guess is that without his books you will not have much chance of understanding what "the puzzle" is all about.

I will say again that you need ALL of Farrell's books (now up around 15 I think). His entire body of work is becoming very impressive. My shelf devoted to his books is one of my prized possessions.

I have only one complaint about Joseph Farrell: this guy only writes one or two books a year, maybe three. He should produce AT LEAST one a month. The pain he inflicts on his readers making us wait 6 months for each book should be a crime! A crime I say!

After reading this book all I can say is: wow! There are a whole bunch of disparate threads drawn together here in a very thought-provoking dissertation. I'm not entirely convinced by his theory of a breakaway civilisation, but Joseph Farrell has done a good job of presenting evidence that is very suggestive of the idea and in doing so, touches upon things that I have been wondering about myself for many years. In particular, the whole question of George Adamski (co-author of the enigmatic Flying Saucers Have Landed) and one of the founders of the "contactee" movement in the post war years of the late 1940s and early 50s.

Flying Saucers Have Landed was the first UFO-related work I ever read - way back in 1968 when a copy mysteriously materialised in my childhood home. It made a huge impression on the juvenile me and I still refer to it from time to time. I have been wondering for years whether there was a secret agenda behind the book (from both Desmond Leslie and George Adamski) and whether Adamski genuinely believed he was in contact with the benign, but impossible, "Space Brothers" he described or just a fraud out to make a buck from the UFO phenomenon.

Joseph Farrell too has pondered that and seems to be of the opinion that Adamski was the pawn of a post-war breakaway civilisation. One with a very definite agenda and a technology that is just far enough advanced from that of the rest of the world to make it appear "alien" despite its entirely terrestrial origins. He makes a good case for this technology being based on an alternate physics and related technologies initially developed in Nazi Germany and further refined in the West following WW2 in black projects, such as those developed by the Skunk Works et al in the USA. Although I find his arguments plausible, I was not convinced that Farrell has the story quite right.

There were obviously a lot of political machinations following the war (some of which which were none too savoury), but I don't necessarily buy the idea that there is a unified elitist 'breakaway civilisation' behind it all. Farrell has not yet convinced me that an elite group is preparing to stage a global coup with the aim of enslaving the rest of humanity - at least not with this work. To my mind there are too many pieces in the puzzle that don't fit this model. However, to give him hus due, Farrell makes the best case for it that I have heard thus far and he makes it easy to understand why otherwise intelliegent people can believe in conspiracy theories.

There is no doubt that Farrell has done his homework and he gives an interesting overview of the theories of Heim and other German physicists whose ideas he believes formed the basis of this alternate physics. This was the most interesting aspect of the book for me. He claims these physicists posited that Einstein was not correct in thinking of spacetime as a continuum and I am persuaded that this is quite possibly the case. Einstein himself (I'm reliably informed) had misgivings about some aspects of his work, so it would probably come as no surprise to the great man himself if it turned out that he was wrong on this point.

Although I haven't looked at the theories Farrell touches upon in this book in any detail, I think that there might just be something to the alternate physics he talks about. At least it 'feels right' to me, if that is anything to go by. I had one of those "aha" moments when I read it and I will certainly be following it up with further research on the ideas presented.

Getting back to the whole contactee question, I would have liked to know what Farrell thought of Desmond Leslie's contribution to the subject of ufology. He has always been an enigma to me and one of the first to propose the idea of ancient astronauts. I have often wondered whether he might have been a Nazi sympathiser, as his section of Flying Saucers Have Landed was the first place I ever heard the word "Vril" mentioned. He was obviously exposed to many of the same influences. I was surprised that Farrell did not follow this possible connection up. He devoted a fair bit of time to Adamski and his friends, but none to his co-author Leslie.

Anyway, all in all I recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject of UFOs, alternate physics and that fascinating post war period when anything seemed possible and the sky was the limit. There are some interesting ideas presented and it although it probably raises more questions than it answers, it is a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unpalatable Truths revealed by Joseph P Farrell.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 1, 2014
This is a book that should be taken extremely seriously. It is the most academic book by Farrell I have come across. I am completely “with” Farrell. He is certainly very “up” and tuned in to the current zeitgeist. The book is slightly disjointed; after reading it you should realize why. I agree with Farrell totally regarding the “breakaway civilization” which is a state without boundaries. All of the ills on this planet can be ascribed to this state within a state within a state. He begins with the an appraisal of the work of the historian, Carroll Quigley and Richard M Dolan a ufologist. Quigley believed that civilization is a by- product of the “Sociology of Weapons”; Dolan postulated the idea of a “breakaway civilization” which is literally underground and escapes the gaze of of the topsiders. The only clues as to it’s existence are the ufos which are on occasion exhibited, to the consternation and alarm of humanity.

Farrell comes to this analysis from an alternative science standpoint and of thoughts regarding ancient technology. Why is it that “we”, on the face of the earth regard ourselves as in control of “our” civilization? At the beginning of the book Farrell appears to ascribe this “breakaway civilization” solely to the manipulation of Nazis after the WW2, when Nazi scientists were farmed out to the USSR and the USA. This is a familiar story and cannot in any way be doubted. But the psychotronic weapons of the Nazis are never discussed openly, except by Farrell. He believes that the “extra- terrestrial” hypothesis was a psy- op; a psychological meme implanted in the host states to cover - up the development of advanced electro- propulsive technology on this planet. There is scant evidence or documentation for this technology in Nazi German documents, but Farrell has found a great deal of published evidence in the post -war years. He quotes a retired employee of the “skunk works” who repeatedly said during lectures that the US. now had the technology to “send ET home” and that the US. had craft that would "make George Lucas drool". Farrell appears to think that this is true and that the technology exists to travel at super- luminary speeds. I still have a few doubts about this, but an open mind nonetheless. The paperclip Nazi scientist Hans Oberth during the ufo panics of the 50’s appeared to know exactly how the ufos sighted in America and all over the world were constructed, and before his death claimed that the Nazis “had help” from “out there”. Farrell also quotes Jacques Vallee who is a deep thinker on the whole question of hidden technologies.

Vallee is interested in the psychological aspects of Ufos too and their affect on the human mind. Vallee believes that they are technological, but also a weapon of disorientation, implanting the belief that there is a superior civilization whose artifacts are magical. Farrell has followed up this line of reasoning, but does not say anything about pre- war ufos, for which there is much evidence in the mythologies and cultures of the world, going back hundreds if not thousand of years. I doubt if the whole question of the existence of hidden technologies can be ascribed to the Nazis. Space is not a vacuum, and there are many problems inherent in the idea of space travel in at super- luminary speeds. How can the craft’s route be plotted through trillions of miles at warp speed? Surely there are many physical obstacles like interstellar particles, radiation of all kinds, and planetoids to navigate.

Farrell goes into some depth regarding the theories of the Paperclip Nazis who appeared to believe in the existence of the “aether” and “zero- point energy”, they refuted the Jewish scientist Einstein’s ideas, and instead suggested with the Nazi scientist, Heim that space is a stationary matrix of geometrical cells, called “metrons” whose spin and orientation can be electronically altered and manipulated by an electro- propulsive vehicle, so that the spaceship is literally sucked through space. But given that ufos have existed throughout human history and the strange creatures which disembark from them, it would seem to me that they must have the ability to travel in time and thus manipulate human history. Perhaps the “breakaway civilization” is more akin the Vallee’s “Magonia” a land of fairy folk, sylphs and nymphs from Earth’s past and distant future!

I have become something of a fan of Farrell having now managed to read through five of his books including this one. I have several more to go as I try to make sense of his world view and clarify my own. His basic premise is that a hidden group of people controls the world gaining power and money for the sake of it and restricting advanced technology to ensure their future. Their origin was the Third Reich and their wealth came from murdered Jews. I, for one, believe Kennedy was assassinated because he intended to do something about them for the betterment of the majority.

For many years I have believed that persons other than national governments were really pulling the strings because so many things happen that are not in the best interests of the taxpayer or residents of various countries including the UK and the USA. I mentioned disinformation and its effect on serious research of aerial phenomena in my review of "Roswell and the Reich". A similar state exists in science regarding cold fusion and anti-gravity, and in Archaeology, as I found from reading "Forbidden Archaeology" by Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson.

We all know what "serious" historians think about the views of people like Charles L. Hapgood, Graham Hancock, Joseph P. Farrell, or anyone who dares to challenge orthodox views. Apparently there is evidence that humans may have been walking around in shoes up to 55 million years ago and a lot of the accepted fossil record regarding humans is of very dubious provenance, except that if it fits in with the accepted theories it is never challenged. When something anomalous turns up it is "lost" or stored away from prying eyes because so many reputations depend upon the currently accepted views as being the "truth". This is why no serious alternatives to "ramps and ropes" is really investigated regarding how the pyramids were built so quickly. Too many reputations depend upon ramps and ropes being the way. Inertia seems to be a serious problem in any type of research. Most people don't want to consider that they are being controlled by other people who do not have their best interests at heart.

Returning to the book, if you have no interest in anything outside orthodox views of history or how the world works you will not want to read this book. If, like me, you are interested in well researched books offering alternate views then I recommend it but only after reading some of Farrell's earlier work.

I've just started to read the Joseph P Farrell books, although I am familiar with this particular area of research I just love his 'presentation'....... I am working my way through most of them (and nearly there)starting off with the grid of the gods, I was hooked. I love his style of writing, its almost like going to a lecture and i like the idea of having the 'references' on the page, there is so much information crammed into one book that i'm sometimes left with my head spinning but always wanting more. Very fascinating and interesting stuff- I wouldn't say I agree with everything but certainly the majority. I prefer to read his books than watch his blogs etc but i'm probably in the minority there. If you are wondering whether to read his books (because there is lots of dis-information and cultish clap trap out there) just try one and see........i'm sure you'll enjoy.

Part of the breakaway civilization series, this work surveys not so much UFOs as such but the communication memes surrounding the topics, in statements (and secrecy policies) by governments, "official" scientists, politicians, corporations. "Ufofology" - as well as Hollywood - has often been recruited to repeat government and corporate sponsored messages, which have changed over the decades. The role of German "former" Nazis has been prominent in the US space programme as well as in disinformation about UFOs.
