- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2016In the Terra Nova book, Dieter Duhm offers a comprehensive vision of a concrete utopia grounded in nearly forty years of research in community. What he details is literally a New Earth evolving not from our shared human history of war and collective trauma but rather from the newly emerging information field of peace. This is a world based on trust and mutual support, ending the long assault against life and love characterizing the patriarchal period of the last five thousand years. Essential to this work, this revolution, is “issue number one,” the restoration of the proper relationship between the sexes, the freeing of love and sexuality from existing patterns of power and control and, most importantly, from fear.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2016While psychotherapy addresses healing on the individual level, Duhm encourages us to consider the diseases that psychologically afflict us from a cultural, global perspective. Terra Nova explores how to build new communities or “healing biotopes” that eradicate fear and celebrate the transformations that arise from fulfilling our basic human needs for trust, love, and connection. A read that Inspires us to challenge the core beliefs and cultural norms that have been formed though centuries of war, patriarchy, and violence, to risk a paradigm shift that will heal the collective and fulfill the ideal of heaven on earth.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2017I wish everyone would read this book and take it to heart before we completely ruin the planet!! Tamera is leading the way in how a community should be built and blossom. They don't have all the answers but ask the questions regarding the possibilities.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2017"Terra Nova" is a book written by an old German man named Dieter Duhm who founded an intentional community called Tamera in Portugal in 1995. The book is about his worldview as lived out in the past twenty years at Tamera.
Much of their study at Tamera has gone into researching the sexual dynamics between men and women. Here is an excerpt along these lines:
Basic Guidelines for Love [p. 120]
- Love is the ultimate treasure of human culture.
- Trust between man and woman is the basis of a future without war. Never lie to your love partner.
- You can only be faithful if you are allowed to love others. Free love and the love between a couple are not mutually exclusive, but complementary.
- Jealousy is not part of love.
- Partnership does not derive from mutual possession, but only from mutual compassion and support.
- Sadism and masochism are the result of humanity’s mistreatment of sexuality. Violence is not part of sexuality and submission does not belong to love.
- No sex with children.
- Sexual acts must never be conducted against the will of any person.
- There is no ownership in love. Relationship problems cannot be solved legally, but only with the help of a supportive community.
- If you have a choice between love and something else, follow love.
Although the language in the book was great [using terms such as Field of Potentiality, Implicate Order, Morphogenetic Field, Akashic Records], I didn't feel a strong resonance with the book. I live and work in communities looking at some of the global issues that Tamera has been involved with, but for some reason I feel a bit of a cultural disconnect with this piece.
Duhm brings Christ into the picture again and again. A bold move; most modern alternative communities stay clear of religious figures. But I think that Duhm has found a way to work with the Christian archetype that doesn't detract from his message.
As a side note, something I noticed about this book was it's poor printing quality. Usually I don't pay any attention to printing quality [except when it's outstanding, such as with letter press books]. But the side of the page closest to the binding was often streaky and faint in my copy. Apparently the publisher is at Tamera, so maybe they don't have professional quality printing equipment.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2017It was a really good journey through the concepts at tamera and what they’re trying to work towards. I found it very helpful and interesting and gave me quite a lot to think about concerning community, capitalism, society and spirituality with a nice new lens towards a future construction of a new global society.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2016A very clear powerful and inspiring vision of peace on earth, based on 30 years of living in a peace research community in Portugal. I have been there! And they really are moving toward and living in a replicable model for peace on earth!
